I was pointed to Semver [0] (from the Devuan website).

I much like the effort to clearly define the  way  many  projects
use  this kind of versioning approach in an implicit way. The au-
thor is right when he  writes  that  it  *is*  important  to  act
strictly following such rules because otherwise you cannot depend
on it and thus return to the dependency hell.
