Shell scripting is a realization of software leverage, which is a
most powerful concept. Making the shell exchangeable was surely a
brave but also a brilliant decision in Unix. These things are the
true values of Unix!

For sure, Bourne shell syntax is of no such good value.  (If  one
takes  a  look  at the original implementation with the Algol if-
defs, one gets the creeping horrors!) But hey, the user  is  free
to  choose  whatever shell he likes! This is Unix, so shut up and
change it! ... or shut up and accept it!
