2016-06-14 Again a server reboot. Most people care for the downtime when the data center decides to reboot their rented server. I do hardly care for the downtime; what I care for is the shutdown itself. My websites and stuff are just one part of my server usage. More important is the working environment I have there. For me it is normal to ssh to the server and work there. All my emailing is done on the server. Writing this text is done on the server. For me the server pro- vides a central working environment that I may detach and attach any time to pause and continue work where I was. This is pretty old-style Unix thinking ... but this is what I want and reboots collide with this working model. This is the reason why a server reboot is much more severe for me than for others ... whereas the server being offline for some hours during the night would not matter much to me. http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
