The replacement printer had arrived. As its fuser was much  worse
than  the  other  one, I exchanged them. Now printing is jamless.
:-)

But a new error came up. When I printed a PDF containing a  large
image,  the  printer printed a page with the following error mes-
sage instead:

     ERROR:
     limitcheck
     OFFENDING COMMAND:
     image

Some research brought up, that the  problem  appears  to  be  the
conversion from PDF to PS when the image size overfloats the max-
imum possible image size allowed in PS.

I circumvented the problem by running pdftops(1)  on  the  client
and  sending  the  resulting PS to the printer. This also is much
faster than the internal PDF-to-PS conversion of CUPS.
