Currently, I'm writing a lot of SQL queries. The ability to speak
SQL is similar to the ability to speak regular expressions:  Both
lift you to higher  grounds.  (Francesc  helped  me  to  see  the
wonders of SQL, by the way.)

Two useful functions of Mysql, which I got to know recently,  are
extractvalue() and group_concat().
