2015-11-23 Came across an article on keyboards. [0] Especially the last one (Keyboardio M01) is great! But as I frequently work at a bunch of different computers, such special hardware is impractical for me. The standardization ap- pears to be more valuable than the better design. Still, however, I maintain the idea of possibly switching to a different keyboard layout. Away from the German QWERTZ and towards either QWERTY or NEO/Dvorak. The former would be best regarding Unix compatibility (vi and the like), the latter ones fail in this respect but would improve my typing speed and reduce typing errors. (I was told that switching between such layouts on my own machines and QWERTZ on foreign machines is not too much trouble.) Up to now, I'm sticking with the option that requires the least effort ...
