2015-10-02 Met with Philipp to plan for an mmh-0.2 release in the next weeks. It is so much more better to do such when meeting in per- son and sitting at one desk than by writing emails. Following the three hours of coordination talk, right on the train, I just did some of the work. It's always the point of just starting to go for it; seldom it's the difficulty of the problem that delays the work. Also today, I helped to run a workshop for ordinary office work- ers. My part was to show them that SQL databases can be a valu- able tool to solve problems they encounter every now and then. I picked them up at Excel and showed them the way to Access and real SQL. (The Access part was mostly covered by a collegue.) My core thesis was that all this is less scary as one fears and that one can advance easily in small steps. A good starting point to SQL is the SQL zoo. [0] The link from the Access world to the real SQL world is easily created with Access's SQL view. One might switch back and forth between the views. Another important corner stone to SQL is phpMyAdmin, as a user interface. It is much too seldom used this way. But if you import and export CSV data, it might easily replace Excel for a bunch of tasks. I tried to show that all these tools can be part of the same landscape, where you move data arbitrary between them and use whatever suits the specific task best.
