2015-09-16 Worked two days with a komplex SVG. It had several ``layers'' who's visibility was changed by some Javascript in the embedding HTML page. My task was adjusting it in various kinds (or rather creating a similar one). I used Inkscape for it, as it is known to be the standard tool for such a task. However, I switched back and forth from Vim to Inkscape, whichever tool seemed to be more handy for some editing task. This switching between code and GUI was greatly empowering. I'll likely use such an approach again. However, the switching back and forth was also motivated by the beta-quality of the 0.48 Inkscape version I have on my Debian stable system. For instance, the XML editor window, which is an important feature, has a horrible usability. I hope that improved in newer versions (like the 0.91, which is in Debian unstable). Also, what's the structural difference between groups and layers? I don't see it. But the visibility of layers can be toggled well, whereas I found no way to toggle the visibility of groups. Why isn't the layer window and it's funktions usable for groups as well? Of course, layers are linear and groups are hierarchical, but though, there's so much synergy potential that could be ex- ploited. http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
