It is not the usual case that I receive comments on my lue texts.
The recent ones, however, lead to two comments.

One came from Yannic. He pointed me to OpemMW [0] as the  way  to
run  Morrowind on GNU/Linux. I've already come across it in early
2010. Back then it still was in early development, but now it ap-
prears to be readily usable.

The other comment was made by Peter Hofmann,  who  contributed  a
real-world example for the use of file descriptors larger than 2:

     while read -r <&3
     do
             ssh "$REPLY" ... whatever ...
     done 3<hostlist

When doing the example without fd=3,  then  collisions  with  the
standard input of ssh appear.

He pointed to this example as well.  [1]  Possibly  it  would  be
good to use such higher file descriptors for all while-read loops
that read from files, he muses.
