2014-09-08 The editor topic is still in my head. Since many months I wonder if ex-vi is the editor I want to stay with. The question was re- cently fueled by the discussions on the TUHS mailing list. I'd love to use ed more often, just because it's the standard (text editor). And there is sam, the Plan9 editor by Rob Pike, as well. It's a sort of graphical ed, but with a more powerful language. Following a sudden impulse, I installed the plan9port and thus had a working sam (with samterm) an hour or so later. (On ARM, samterm is broken, but on i386 it runs fine.) I did some playing around and realized that sam is not ed. ;-) I need to read more about sam to understand it. Why are all those videos on the web in those awfully large reso- lutions? I scaled one down (to be able to watch it in realtime on my cubietruck) using: avconv -i waytoolarge.avi -vf scale=800:-1 okay.avi http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
