2013-11-03 Free fonts. Where do you get them from? Of course, there are lots of amateur fonts with just the basic character set, but if you want high quality fonts ... I used to take Philipp Poll's superb Linux Libertine fonts, but now I wanted to have a bit more diversity. I like old classic typefaces, but I searched for Bookman, for instance. I wanted to have one of Type1, TrueType, or OpenType files. I've read that there should be some free ones by URW. If they exist, then Debian surely includes them. Thus, I started to search the archives. I found them in the package `texlive-fonts-recommended'. [0] For size reasons, I downloaded the Debian package (16M instead of 190M) and extracted the contents manually with ar(1) and tar(1). This was just the things I wanted (Type1 fonts for troff). If you want many more fonts, try `texlive-fonts-extra'. After many weeks with the search engine DuckDuckGo, I can draw a conclusion: Using the search engine is hardly different but the result set is not as good as Google's, especially for strange to- pics. I should give Startpage a try, now. [0] http://packages.debian.org/texlive-fonts-recommended http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
