Sed and awk are often used without real  understanding  of  them.
Both  tools are small and follow clear concepts. It does not take
long to understand them fully. Yet, they are often used by  trial
and error (as soon as the use goes beyond the most common cases).
On debianforum.de, I explained basics of both programs  just  re-
cently.   [0]  [1]  Actually, I like this kind of teaching a lot.

While thumbing through an old Unix book,  I  discovered  news(1).
It's  the  big  brother  of /etc/motd (and has nothing to do with
Netnews/Usenet). I've installed the package  `sysnews'  at  once,
because  I  like it, no matter that I don't really know use cases
for it right now.
