How to break a line in two?

In ed(1) this way:

     ed
     a
     aaaxbbb
     s,x,\
     ,
     ,n
     1       aaa
     2       bbb
     Q

It's the same substitution in ex(1). However, in the ex  mode  of
vi(1), this is not possible, because on Enter the command is exe-
cuted. The Backslash does not concealed the Newline.

To break a line in vi, use:

     :s,x,^M,

`^M' is input with `Ctrl-V + Ctrl-M'.
