2012-09-09 I am using computers much too often and too long these days. I want to reduce my amount of computer time but I don't reach the situation I want. Well, the amount needs to be seen as percentage of my free time. And I don't want to do just less but do more the valuable things (and less of them) and stop wasting time. The fetch-mails-once-a-day change improved the situation. There have been few days when I fetched manually further times. That's okay. In my attempt to reduce my computer interaction generally, I dis- cover that this is difficult. There is personal desire to work on the machine. Then there are commitments I have made over the years, which I don't want to drop simply. And most important, it's truly hard to not read about this and that in the Wikipedia; to not have a look at the digital map; to not check the time to drive to this other city; to not search for a telephone number online; to take the time for letter correspondence and get others to write letters as well; to pay for something which you can have for free online; and much more. Even pbm (Postspiele) which in- terest me a lot these days are mostly played with computers these days. Email is faster and cheaper than snail mail and everyone uses computers anyways. All the volumenous documentation is on- line as well. Any attempt to move away from computers gets demo- tivated very soon by reality. I would need to change my life fun- damentally, but this I don't want to do. In consequence, my status is: Still searching for improvement. http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
