2012-06-08 I had been to GPN12 in Karlsruhe. This was the first true hacker gathering I've been to. There were geeks everywhere, sitting at their computers, working, but as well, there were many non- programming hackers. You cannot compare this to Linuxtag. This was new to me, but I liked it. Especially, I value that real work was done during the event. Although I am hardly productive with lots of people around me, I like productive community events. Michi was also there, and Boris of course. We spent the time to- gether. Boris came up with some thoughts about contact manage- ment. This lead to an interesting discussion and eventually to a 10-minute prototype with mmh. [0] I also did a talk myself. About mmh, of course. [1] It must have been about 25 persons attending the 45-minute talk. Obviously, the topic is not very popular (not at all to compare to an intro- duction to LUA, that is). But I did receive positive feedback and had a good discussion afterwards. Still, supporting neither IMAP nor Maildir is a no-go for the masses. But that requires long explanations. All in all, GPN12 was worth to be there. Next year I'll try to stay for longer than one day.
