2012-02-22 There's the general opinion, that executing code with system(3) is a bad idea. Instead, programs manually split the command line into words and call exec(3) instead. Usually this splitting into words is too primitive and covers only the most general cases (i.e. no quoting). Thus, people insert wrapper scripts if they want to do fancier stuff. No, where's the advantage of using exec(3) instead of system(3) then? I could quickly solve a simple problem, which came up on the masqmail list. The question was asked by Sebastian M. Alvarez from Cordoba, Argentina. Hey, I had been in Argentina, about a year ago. I asked him in Spanish, how the weather would be in Cordoba. It's a truly good experience to know foreign languages. My Spanish (better: Castellano) isn't good, but good enough, that's what that matters. Sadly, my French is so bad that I can't even talk for half a minute. My mmh work is on idle, currently. http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
