2011-08-04 Came across FreeRA [0], which is Command & Conquer, Red Alert for Unix. That's great! After I managed to compile it (needed to remove `-Werror'), it wasn't a surprise that I would spend hours playing it. My last session around midnight: Time wasted: 0 hours 42 minutes 12 seconds Player Unit kills: 61 losses: 35 Structure kills: 22 losses: 4 Unfortunately the project is abandonned and still incomplete. Most of the basic game play is available but lots of the minor features are not. There's also OpenRA [1], which appears to be actively developed and more complete. But, installing Mono for it is a no-go. Sad, but that's it for OpenRA. Seems I should also give wine plus the original RA a try. I also worked on hardware. The used 250G SATA hard disk I received for free has problems. It appeared and vanished so often that it finally got ignored. Now I removed it again. And finally, I continued with my case mod. Today I cut the win- dow into the side of the case where I inserted the TFT screen then. I also soldered an additional power cabel into the power supply which will power the screen. If I'm lucky I can turn the machine on for a first test already tomorrow. [0] http://freera.sourceforge.net [1] http://openra.res0l.net http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
