2011-06-15 Started to take part in the ``Experimental Editor'' discussion on the suckless mailing list. I felt the need to say some words about modes. More on rss2email. I did some tests with rsstail(1). Although the idea of rsstail is nice, its implementation had deficites. Sounds familiar, huh? Actually rsstail is `tail -f' -- Why? Shouldn't rsstail be tail and `rsstail -f' be `tail -f'? This may be seen as a minor thing, but to me it is an indicator what I can expect from the program. But besides that rsstail provides useful, though limited, function to our ideas. The shortcomings mostly result out of the variety of feed format flavors existing. (Seems I don't need to add my dislike for XML.) However, krt did also already work on the topic. He hacked something in Ruby. Using available XML/Feed modules is probably the prefered way to not deal with the beasts. Let's see how this evolves ... After several weeks with Metapost at university, I finally under- stood some basic concepts and became able to solve the diagram drawing task we had to do. We all know: Understanding the basic concepts is essential. That's what we really should learn; the rest ist optional. Most often that's what makes reading books of the original authors of something so much more valuable than books by others on the topic. The original designers explain their original thoughts, i.e. the main concepts behind it. http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
