I have a machine with Debian lenny running. When I exchange  mer-
curial repos with that machine I get this message:

     abort: requirement 'fncache' not supported!

This error origins in the  new,  and  incompatible,  repo  format
which had been introduced with mercurial 1.1. Unfortunately Debi-
an lenny includes version 1.0.1 of mercurial. But there  are  the
backports. Lenny-backports includes mercurial 1.3.1 -- fine.

Apt-get allows to install some package in a specific version like
this:

     apt-get install mercurial=1.3.1-1~bpo50+2 mercurial-common=1.3.1-1~bpo50+2
