2010-05-16 Something broke my X. On startup it just showed a black screen and hung. Switching to a console (Alt-Ctrl-Fx) was not possible. Killing the X server (Alt-Ctrl-Backspace) didn't work neither. But logging in via ssh was still possible. Unfortunately there was no X server process to kill. I finally solved the problem by removing `/etc/modprobe.d/i915- kms.conf'. The hint cam from some bug report for xserver-xorg- video-intel. During the process of trying to solve the problem myself, I up- graded to linux-2.6.32, which broke my fstab an thelike because I didn't want to switch to hard disk UUIDs. As I didn't want to change all /dev/hd* references to /dev/sd* and test them after- wards, I stayed with 2.6.30. I really hate modern technology. http://marmaro.de/lue/ markus schnalke
