2022-04-17 Soehnstetten Today I played a round of disc golf in Soehnstetten. It was a sunny but slightly cold (12C) day with noticable north-east wind. I played with three discs: D P3, JB Zone, and the 171g yellow Star Teebird. I wanted to get more used to this Teebird. 1) Without any warm-up, I failed badly on the first hole. Zone FH drive (because of the wind direction) a bit short. The layup also short. The badly missed the 7m putt, sailing high over the basket. Missed the 9m comebacker, then had a drop-in. -> 5 2) Zone forehand, a bit high and short. I had to lay up. Drop-in. -> 3 3) Teebird backhand, not enough anny (I should have known because of the tailwind!), fading left behind the big trees. Great P3 thumber through the trees. 3m putt. -> 3 4) Teebird backhand, with a slight bit too much turn, going OB. The disc still was on the edge of the flat part, but there now is a new OB line, which it passed by about 1m. P3 BH approach. 3m putt. -> 4 5) Teebird backhand. A good drive, flat and long. Of course, it faded down, which was expected and is alright. But it went pin- high! P3 approach. 3m putt. -> 3 6) Zone FH. Then made the 9m downhill putt! :-) -> 2 7) Zone BH, a bit early, but with a nice roll a few meters. Had to lay-up. Drop-in. -> 3 8) Teebird BH. Probably I was influenced by people watching me. The drive was bad: high and left and short. Approach. 5m putt. -> 3 9) There's a new tee on this hole. It's significantly moved right, which makes the angle around the mando much more diffi- cult. My forehand cannot reach the pin, but a long anny works easier than it first seems. However, I did not commit enough to the line. I wasn't confident enough in visualising the line and angles, plus, I didn't know the disc well enough and the wind was from the right. Still, the throw was not too bad, despite land- ing on the left side of the scrubs. From there I had a P3 thumber over the scrubs to the pin. This worked out great as well. Then a 4m putt to the elevated pin. -> 3 10) Teebird BH, a nice drive. I cannot get the same distance as with a Valk or OLF on a good throw but the landing spot was at least average. P3 approach. 4m putt. -> 3 11) Zone BH, too low, hit the ground halfway. Not sure why I threw it so low. Maybe that's because of the new teepad, which seems to have a different angle, or did I usually throw forehands here? Anyways, I had a 10m putt and missed that slightly low. 2m putt. -> 3 12) Zone BH stallout. 4m putt. -> 2 13) Teebird BH. A very good drive, unfortunately one meter too much right, caught up slightly in the tree. Although I was only 7 meters from the pin, I had no look. :-( I had to chip out for a drop-in. -> 3 14) Teebird BH, a bit right, landing in the lift track behind the pin. Had a quite makable 8m uphill putt ... and missed it by a hair low. Drop-in. -> 3 15) Teebird BH, not perfect but good. 7m uphill putt. After miss- ing the last one low, this time I missed a tiny bit high, hitting the band ... and rolling away. :-( Another miss, this time from 9m. But then a make from 2m. -> 4 16) This hole was changed as well: In front of the pin are three mozarella sticks. They don't really affect me. I cannot drive all the way to the pin and usually rather land right, which is open. Exactly this happended from the Teebird BH drive. From 12m it was an easy layup, not wanting to run the putt. Drop-in. -> 3 17) Here we have a new teepad as well. Probably I should have used the driver for a downpowered throw, but I went with the Zone, overpowered and yanked it to a sky anny that flew into OB right. :-( 20m approach. 4m putt. -> 4 18) Again with the Zone BH. Like on #8 there were some watchers and my drive was bad, high and thus short. It landed almost behind the big tree, but fortunately slid a bit left so that I had a very straight line, despite the right side being blocked. I had to putt with a slightest bit of anny for a straight flight ... and sank the putt from 12m! :-D That clearly was the highlight of the round! -> 2 With 3 birdies, 3 bogeys and 1 double-bogey, I ended up at +2 (=56). That's a score I am pleased with. Some mistakes were un- fortunate. Two OBs. Some putts were almost made. I cannot be an- gry with the round. My putting was great. Well, the putts I had were mainly short ones, which usually is a good sign. My putts made: - DI 5 - 2m 2 - 3m 3 - 4m 4 - 5m 1 - 8m 1 - 9m 1 - 12m 1 My putts missed: - 7m 2 - 8m 1 - 9m 2 - 10m 1 Plus 5 layups, which I either could not or did not want to run. This means, I made everything from 5m and in -- yes! :-) Although I missed six putts from the the outer half of the circle that's okay, because most of them felt good and were nearly in. Putting in general felt very good today. That probably is most important. Usually I throw most approaches with the Zone, but today I used the P3 for almost all of them. For once, I want to use it more for these throws, and then it lands more flat with less potential for rollaways. I used the Zone nonetheless for 8 of the 18 drives: 3 forehand, 5 backhand. Except for the bad drive on #17, all of them lead to usable results ... to be exact: all three birdies were after Zone drives! When I don't use the Zone for approaches, then I could exchange it with the Roc3 for the same flight shape but a bit more length. This could help on #11, #17, #18, without effecting #6 and #7 too much. That could be worth a try. Overall this round of disc golf was fun today! :-) http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
