2021-07-03 Eagle at Soehnstetten (Meant is my DX Eagle-X, not the score. ;-) It's all par-3s at Soehnstetten, thus an eagle would be an ace.) It wasn't really a good round. Despite nice weather and only slight wind, I couldn't score well. Eventually I finished at +4, which is my average score. 5 bogeys and 1 birdie. Most outstanding was the putting situation: On 18 holes I had 15 drop-ins, 2 putts from 5m, and 1 putt from 7m. This means, I could not make all those longer putts, that would have saved me one stroke each. Let's get through the holes: #1: Zone backhand straight at the pin. I haven't tried that ear- lier, but it worked well. Missed the 8m putt, had a roll-away to 12m, layed that up. Drop-in. -> 4 #2: Zone forehand, too short and right. P3 forehand chip-out. Drop-in. -> 3 #3: Eagle backhand, nice throw, landing right next to the ladder, which is about as good as I can drive here. 13m missputt. Drop- in. -> 3 #4: Eagle backhand, not quite as far and left als I get my better Valk/MOLF drives, but still decent. Bad P3 thumber layup. Missed from 10m. Drop-in. -> 4 #5: Eagle backhand (with an X-step), overturned it, resulting in a throwler, got only half-way to the pin. Zone forehand, good. 5m putt. -> 3 #6: Zone forehand, I didn't throw it hard enough. It landed short. 15m downhill half-run, missed. Another 5m putt. -> 3 #7: Zone backhand, a bit inside and thus short, but not bad. Dif- ficult P3 thumber layup. 5m obstructed putt from within the tree, missed. Drop-in. -> 4 #8: Eagle backhand ... on a great line, wind perfectly calculat- ed, everything great, but 8m short of the pin. Missed the 8m putt. Drop-in. -> 3 #9: Eagle backhand, unfavorable wind from the right. I was very unsure concerning the release angle. It never turned a bit and I hadn't aimed right, thus I landed on the left end of the scrubs. I thumbered over the scrubs with the P3, barely high enough, but in the end a great result! 2m drop-in into the elevated pin. -> 3 #10: Now the most perfect Eagle drive there could be! Everything just perfect: The right flip-up, the drifting right, the right height, the fading back, landing center fairway, good distance. There's nothing I could have made better on this shot. It's hard- ly possible to throw a nicer line than this. The only problem: I still was 20m short. ;-) Missed that long putt. Drop-in. -> 3 #11: Zone forehand, a bit too much hyzer and thus right. Had awk- ward footing and missed the 9m putt. Drop-in. -> 3 #12: Zone backhand, full power hyzer. A good drive and absolutely the right distance. A tiny bit left -- a miss right would have been better. Only a 4m (death-)putt, but I hit it left-side and it chained out. :-/ Drop-in. -> 3 #13: Eagle backhand, with too much hyzer (in the tailwind), landing short left. Good P3 jumper layup, just got a bit long. 7m putt ... and I made it -- the only long putt I made. -> 3 #14: Eagle backhand, this time with more turn ... unfortunately too much turn. The disc landed and came to rest in the rock wall by the lift track. From there I had a 15m putt almost downwards to the pin. My run was fine, but it stood up and rolled down to 20m. Missed the putt from there. Drop-in. -> 4 #15: Eagle backhand, a bit low and thus short. 18m putt, which I missed. Drop-in. -> 3 #16: Good Eagle drive backhand. 11m short of the pin. Only hit the cage. Drop-in. -> 3 #17: Eagle backhand anny, it went a bit too high and the Eagle has more fade than I expected. Just made the mando, but landed behind it down left. I went for a small backhand hyzer gap with the Zone ... I shouldn't have, because I hit the tree. (A P3 forehand anny around would have been better, i.e. taking the largest gap.) Then, from a similar position, a Zone spike hyzer jumper layup. Drop-in. -> 4 #18: Zone backhand, with a lot of hip snap, slinging the disc out. A great shot, with a lot of power and on a good line, plus a bit of luck through the trees ... parking the hole! 1m drop-in! What a drive! The best on this hole yet. -> 2 This round was one of those where you are constantly faced with 10-20m putts, which you, obviously, seldom make, and thus score so many strokes higher than if they would have been 5-10m putts. It wasn't that my putting was bad. There were maybe three putts I could have made, but otherwise I just hadn't the opportunities to make those putts. Clearly, the drives were the problem. The did not get me into the circle for 5-8m putts. The Zone drives were off and the Eagle drives as well. I'm not sure what the problem with the Zone drives was. The Eagle drives were usually good if it were open throws. They flew a bit shorter than I get my Valk or MOLF on these throws but not much. If I had to shape certain lines (#9, #17) I wasn't as used to the Eagle than I know my other discs. (For #9 with the right-to-left wind the Eagle seemed to be just the wrong disc.) Overall, so good the Eagle's flight (MOLF as well) is for open holes, it does not really click for me for line shaping. The flight pattern is just too complex. It looks as if I put the Eagle back into the stash again, rocking Valkyrie and Teebird again next time. :-) The upshots were a problem as well. I need more practice with the P3 thumbers! Overall not the best scoring, but otherwise a nice day out. Three discs in the hand were nice and lightweight as well. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
