2020-11-26 Wiley, Single Driver After playing a lot on the Soehnstetten course recently, I've been back at Wiley, yesterday and today. All five rounds with the discs in the hand. It was cold (only 3C), foggy, wet grass, but only a slightest wind from the west. First round yesterday I played with D P3, JB Zone and 300 F7. Zone drives on #2, #4, #7, and #8. The rest were F7 backhands. I got a birdie on #4 and a bogey on #8 (after a bad drive and a bad upshot). I missed a 6m and three 10m putts. Also missed a 12m putt that came to rest on top of the basket. On the last hole I sank a 10m putt. :-) The score was E (=27). Second round yesterday I played with D P3 and the fresh turquoise DX Teebird. Unfortunately, as I had to discover, this is the most understable of all my Teebirds. It has some fade because of its freshness, but also has noticable turn. (The PLH defines the turn of Teebirds.) This simply is not what I expect a Teebird to pro- vide. I want full HSS (otherwise I'd rather go with Eagles). Well, I took two double bogeys on #1 and #8 after 10m/6m and 13m/8m missed putts, following bad upshots already. Further missed putts from 5m, 7m, 8m, 10m ruined the round. At least I had a birdie on #3 with a 4m putt. That was a great drive. On #9 my 25m P3 forehand hyzer upshot was parked. The score was +3 (=30). Today, with similar weather conditions, I played three rounds with MOLF plus D P3 (black rimmed). First round today, I took a bogey on #3 after missing 10m and 5m putts. Two outside the circle putts hit the band and cage. But I also missed a 5m putt. Most putts were from 2m, the longest vom 5m on the last hole. On #7 I got a birdie after a MOLF forehand drive and a 4m putt. Score: E (=27). Second round today, the same bogey on #3 after missing a 15m and a 5m putt. Missed all the outside the circle putts, but at least once hit the band. Unfortunately I missed a 6m putt on #4 for birdie. The putts I made were between 2m and 5m. Score: +1 (=28). Third round today, instead of the bogey on #3 I scored a birdie. :-) This time I took the low anny flex route, which worked better than the big hyzer with the fade of the OLF. I didn't exactly hit my line, but it worked out though ... and I sank a 12m putt! :-D Then two missed putts from 8m low -- that was a form issue. On #6 a great MOLF forehand and 2m gimme for birdie! :-) Score: -2 (=25). The last hole was intersting. My MOLF drives were all pretty good. The first two were a bit high, but after a full flight, they landed between the two bush rows, which gave me 15m putts for birdie on this yet never birdied hole! I missed them but made the 5m comebackers both times. In the third round, my drive was pretty low, but otherwise perfect. It landed on the first bush row, unfortunately tucked onto a bush. From 15m I threw a P3 thumber, that I wanted to give a chance to go in. Unfortunately it sailed past, leaving a 6m comebacker, which I hit. For drives like this one, the OLF does provide a consistent distance. It's easy to get a full flight out of it. It handles wind from all sides pretty well. The max distance of the S VL is a bit longer, but I have the impression that it would not be this consistent ... yet, this could be a misjudgement. Grip conditions aside, I think that the S VL is the best suitable driver for this course. On #1 and #9 it has the best distance po- tential without sacrificing much accuracy. On #3 and #8 it pro- vides long hyzers. On #6 and #7 the forehand hyzers are okay. #2, #4, and #5 are putter drives. I believe that the S VL, JB Zone, D P3 combination has the most potential to scoring well on this course. But on the other hand, as long as I don't bogey (each hole can be saved with a good upshot) it doesn't matter which holes I birdie for a three-under score (which is my current PB). http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
