2020-08-22 Par in Goettingen Two more rounds in Goettingen, at 25C, sunny weather and a little wind from changing directions. I played two relaxed rounds all by myself. And what great rounds they've become! 1) Hellfire forehand. First round I went a bit long, missed the 8m putt. Second round I went a bit higher, which was better, parked it for a 3m putt for birdie. -> 3, 2 2) Hellfire backhand. Very similar flex lines, landing just a bit short at an otherwise good spot. Missed the 8m and 9m putts. -> 3, 3 3) Hellfire backhand. The lower throw worked out. First round I threw with more power and had the disc fly straight. Layup and 5m putt. Second round I accidently threw too weak again, having it go early left. (The overstability of the Hellfire hits quickly as soon as it slows down.) Bad layup shot against a tree, that cost me a stroke. :-( 8m scoober missputt. -> 3, 4 4) Hellfire forehands, still no really good shots, though in the first round I had a 5m straddle putt for birdie ... missed it, unfortunately. Second round, after a bad layup, I made a 4m putt from my knee. -> 3, 3 5) First round my Hellfire drive went left into the bushes. I forehand rollered out with the Hellfire. Then a 35m P3 approach and made the 5m putt for the usual 4. Second round, however, I threw a great drive: good line, good placement, up to the sandy spot. From there a P3 hyzer ... landing 2m from the pin for a drop-in 3! Wow! Count it as a birdie! My first one on this hole. And that with a drop-in! :-) -> 4, 3 6) Hellfire forehands, pretty similar shots. Both either too high or with too much hyzer, landing a bit short right. Missed 12m and 7m putts. -> 3, 3 7) Excitement here! First round I threw my best drive yet on this hole. It was a bit high, but because of that it landed halfway up the slope! Then, unfortunately, it danced around, unsure if it should settle or roll ... Eventually it tingled down to the usual spot. Second round I hit some leaves, dropping the disc down two thirds to the pin. I went with a P3 forehand roller to curl it up the slope to the left. It had a lot of steam, making the hill without problem. Already I was fearing for the OB behind the pin. But fortunately it rested just inside ... leaving me with a 6m death putt! Missing means two more strokes! But I nailed it! :-D Saving the par in a spectacular way. -> 3, 3 8) P3 backhands. The wind was a bit tricky, changing directions. I hit the angles better this time. First round my throw was al- most good. It had the right distance, the right height, just lacked a bit more anny. Just before landing on the platform, it started to fade halfway down the stairs. 8m layup. Second round an even better throw, a bit lower this time. I hit the front left corner of the platform. With the handrail blocking my lines, I had a 7m layup. -> 3, 3 9) (Because of people blocking the fairway the whole time, I had to play this hole another day.) Then I threw the usual Hellfire forehand. First round being short, I layed up with a low P3 slide-it-there shot. Unfortunately it didn't slid as far as I wanted. But I made the 6m putt. Second round the drive was fine. It left me 6m to the pin. Knowing what was on the line, I took some time, then threw a putt, hitting the chains fully, a slight- est bit weak side, but still a full hit ... the disc went into the chains ... and bounced back out as if it would be a trampo- line! What a *horrible* spitout! On the relevant putt for going under par! The par isn't bad, but man! it could have been a bir- die! -> 3, 3 10) The solution is found! -- Is the solution found? At least the teeshot is dialed in now: Hellfire tomahawk over the trees. Both times without problem landing center fairway behind the gap, with a bit of a forward roll even. From there a 40-50m upshot is left. I went with the P3 backhand. First round with a hyzer ... that I should not have done. Took a too tight line, drifting left OB. :-( Missed the 8m putt as well. Second round a simple straight P3 shot for an easy 3m putt for par. (Trust in the straight P3 throws!) -> 5, 3 11) Hellfire backhands. First round rather high, but these leaves let nothing through! Each time they drop the disc down right where it hits. Higher lines have more leaves to deal with. Layup and par. Second round I took a lower line, getting into the trees but not much left. Still the shorter approach, with an 8m scoober layup for a 3m putt. -> 3, 3 12) P3 backhand. I cannot birdie this way, but the par is much safer. First round the guardian tree took it down (because the putter cannot go on a low enough line underneath it). 20m layup and an easy putt. Second round I hit the building straight away. *oops* Another P3 backhand, which was a bit short. Had a 14m putt left on the sloped green with OB on it's bottom ... but cold- bloodily made the putt! :-D -> 3, 3 Two massive rounds! The first one with all pars, except the to be expected four on the long hole 5, and the only flaw with going OB on hole 10, sums up to +3 (=39). Second round a new personal best! Playing even par with a birdie on hole 1 and the unfor- tunate tree hit when laying up on hole 3 that made it a bogey. The rest all pars, even on hole 5. The horrible spitout on 9 but also the great 14m putt on hole 12 to finish this great round. At E (=36) it is two strokes better than my previous best. :-) These par saves, man! They kept the rounds going. The 6m death putt on hole 6 and this last 14m putt on hole 12! Also being confident in my P3 touch backhand game. I threw such great shots this way! The approach on the long hole 5! The ap- proach on the treacherous hole 10. Happy now. :-) http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
