2020-08-21 Goettingen: Tied Personal Best My second round ever on the Goettingen course, which I played in 2018-11 with only a JB Zone, was a 38 (2 over par). I've never come below 40 since then ... until today, when I shot 38 again. :-) At cloudy 25C, hardly a breeze, and no people on the location, I played a relaxed and good round. Again I tried to throw more P3 shots, but didn't force me to do so. 1) Hellfire forehand parked for a 3m putt in round one. The first birdie! :-) Missed the 9m putt in round two. -> 2, 3 2) Hellfire backhand drives. A bit short, but if you hit an 11m putt for birdie, that doesn't matter! Two down through two! :-) Second round I turned the disc a bit right, leaving me with a 20m jumper approach and a drop-in. -> 2, 3 3) Hellfire backhand drives that I got low and downhill enough this time. Just, I couldn't access the green. First round I was pinched behind a big tree without a good line. Unfortunately I threw the hyzer layup against the first tree branch. :-( That caused an unnecessary bogey. Second round a 10m scoober provided a drop-in layup. -> 4, 3 4) Hellfire forehands, but I couldn't get the angles right. I landed left in the first round with an 18m putt, luckily with a window, but I don't expect to make such putts. Second round I tried a flatter release, landing right. From there my only play was a straddle-out left hand (!) roller towards the pin. But then I chained out on the 4m putt! :-( Maybe try something else on this hole next time ... -> 3, 4 5) Two fours after good Hellfire backhand drives, landing pre- fectly placed, and P3 hyzer approaches. First a very obstructed 6m putt that I had to Turbo putt ... and missed. Then a missed 12m putt. But still, the par was within reach both times. The in- itial shot was better than in the previous rounds. -> 4, 4 6) Hellfire forehands. First round I got it a bit high, fading right. 20m layup. Second round a bit too much hyzer, landing right behind the big tree for an obstructed 9m putt with a low ceiling. I went to my knee then hit the cage. -> 3, 3 7) Hellfire backhand. Unspectacular the first round. Missed the 13m putt up the slope. Second round I wanted to go with a lower and more left line for a possible skip up the slope. That back- fired by sending the disc short left into the scrubs. I had to roller out, then was at the usual spot for the outside the circle uphill putt, that I have never made. -> 3, 4 8) Both times with the P3 backhand, to land it flat. I think that this is the better line, because the forehand hyzer will probably never come to rest on the platform, but the flat landing backhand anny pan-out shot could. First round I landed just inside of the location I went OB last time. This time I went patent pending for a half try, then took the par. Second round I threw with a bit less anny. Unfortunately it didn't turn enough, fading out all down the steps. It took me a 25m throw uphill, then an obstructed 5m putt that I missed weak side, until I could make it. -> 3, 4 9) Hellfire forehand. First round I hit branches and dropped down short. A very low straddle forward falling jump putt saved my round as I threw the disc 30m to the basket for an easy putt. Second round my drive lacked some hyzer, landing left. Half run of the 12m putt with a low ceiling (and OB behind the pin). -> 3, 3 10) Executing game plan: Hellfire tomahawk drive over the trees. Both rounds landing perfectly center fairway behind the gap (at about 55m). Then P3 backhand upshots. First round going long, missed the 15m putt. Second round, being short, I made the 13m jump putt! :-) Hole 10 is starting to get friendly. ;-) -> 4, 3 11) Hellfire backhand. First round without anny going short left. Had to flick the P3, which worked great. Then a P3 scoober ap- proach for a drop-in. Second round the drive went straight, 25m layup for a drop-in. -> 4, 3 12) P3 backhand, because it had worked out well last time. It gave me 10m and 15m layups that I gladly took, because the green is sloped towards OB. No need to risk anything at the end of good rounds. -> 3, 3 This made a +2 (=38) and a +4 (=40). Four bogeys each (on dif- ferent holes, except hole 5, which for me playes as a par 4 any- way). On the first round additionally two birdies that made the PB score. Two strokes better would have been possible, without the bad tree hit while approaching on hole 3 and the bad drive on hole 11. But I also made an 11m putt on hole 2 and saved a stroke with the great approach on hole 9. Most importantly, the complete lack of double bogeys! ;-) These rounds were much more par-centered than all of the ones I've played recently. Most of them included two double bogeys. There's no way to score well with multiple double bogeys. Concerning putting, I went with my old technique, delaying the new ideas for practice time. I would like to shoot another sub-40 round in the remaining time of my visit here. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
