2020-08-20 Goettingen: Hellfire 100m Another round at Goettingen. It could have been a great one, but on only three holes I ruined it. The weather was fine (25C, sunny, mostly calm) and few people on the area. I was a bit tired, but maybe this helped. My goal was to throw more smoothly and more shots with the P3. 1) Backhand anny with the P3, went a bit deep. Missed the 12m putt. -> 3 2) The usual backhand anny flex with the Hellfire, a great one, leaving me only a 5m birdie putt ... which I missed. :-( After the short roll another 5m putt ... and another miss. :-( Birdie turned into bogey. What a disgrace! -> 4 3) P3 backhand ... a bit high (I need to realize that this hole is sloped downhill!), got lucky to miss all branches. Straddle layup and then a 5m straddle putt. -> 3 4) Forehand Hellfire with too much anny angle, didn't fight out. Obstructed 12m putt that I missed. -> 3 5) One of my better drives there with the Hellfire backhand (88m). I had enough anny but for that much anny and a such straight and low shot, I could have gone more left. But still better to be out in the open than tucked to the bushes. The P3 approach came in a bit short. Obstructed 15m putt, which I missed. -> 4 6) Full power Hellfire forehand ... and with only a 3m putt left, parked for birdie! :-) -> 2 7) Had a bit too much power, or not enough nose-up, if you like, thus landing right. Solid 25m backhand P3 approach for a drop-in. -> 3 8) Backhand P3. I'm not sure what the problem was that caused go- ing OB right. I thought that I had a tailwind ... Anyways, my look to the pin was bad. I should have gone with a patent pending stance and layed up with more anny. Well, it faded down the steps and I couldn't make the putt back up. -> 5 (That's my first dou- ble bogey on this hole.) 9) Unspectacular as always: Hellfire forehand drive, this time a bit short. Missed the 12m putt. -> 3 10) Welcome back to hole 10! ;-) Stuck to my plan of throwing the P3 with a smooth backhand here (... maybe a P3 forehand would be another option, comes to my mind, just now ...). I hit the gap, but drifted right OB. Then threw the usual Hellfire forehand, which hit by the basket but skipped past it. Missed the 9m putt. -> 5 (A practice drive with a Hellfire tomahawk landed perfectly behind the gap. And a practice approach from the OB lie with the P3 drew metal from 50m. Hence, I played the hole with the wrong disc order.) 11) Good Hellfire backhand anny flex line, layup, putt. -> 3 12) P3 drive flip-up-to-flat, going, missing the tree right ... an landing next to the basket with a 5m birdie putt that I made! My first birdie on this hole! :-) -> 2 This sums up to a +4 (=40) with two OBs and two missed 5m putts (on the same hole). The round had so much more potential! I should trust the P3 more for throwing. If I do, it often pro- vides such good results. Yes, it has initial turn but I get the angles right so often. I could utilize it forehand as well. Con- fidence will come as I do it. Because the field was empty, I did a max distance shot with the Hellfire: a bit of anny for a flex line. It reached 100m! That's 330 feet. I wasn't aware that I can throw that disc so far. 8-O Part of the reason were new grip insights from reading posts of garublador and Weebl on the old DGR forums archive. [0] Instead of focusing on the thumb tip and index finger pivot point and pressing there, I remove the pressure and focus from them. Now I focus on the three other fingers and the base of the thumb on the other side. This gives me easier nose-down (with an above the seam disc location) ... and it might have provided the added dis- tance. I can't wait to throw my other (less overstable discs) with this grip!
