2020-08-13 Goettingen: Anny Flexes Two evening rounds at the Goettingen course. After rain in the morning and a hot afternoon it had perfect conditions for evening disc golf: 25C, no wind. I started playing then met a guy who just started disc golf. We played the remainder of the first round together. After he left I played another round. 1) Forehand Hellfire was the play today. First round I made the 8m putt for birdie. Second round my drive went OB and I missed the 8m par putt. -> 2, 4. 2) The anny flex worked out great on this hole, only the putting lacked despite the backstop. Missed 12m and 8m birdie putts. -> 3, 3. 3) I've got problems with this hole. The Hellfire is too over- stable. Second round I threw with more power, but still it skipped early left into the wall, where's no line to the pin. First round I missed the 8m putt after laying up; second round my layup kicked OB. I need to change something here. Either throw with even more power, or try a forehand to at least have a better angle to the pin, or throw the P3 straight and play for par. -> 4, 4. 4) The Hellfire works well on an anny flex. First round I had a spitout of my obstructed 6m putt. Second round I had too much anny, landing short, threw a jumper and hit the 6m straddle putt. -> 3, 3. 5) Went with a forehand roller with the Hellfire. It turned too quickly, but at least went half the way. Then I threw a backhand hyzer from the rough, layed up and made the expected bogey. Second round I went with an airshot, lacking anny, thus landing in the scrubs as well. Threw a Hellfire forehand, which faded away from the pin, of course. 25m open look jumper to the pin, drop-in. -> 4, 4. 6) Backhand flex with the Hellfire in round one, missed the 11m putt. On the second round I tried a forehand (because that's the more open side, but I was unsure if my forehand could reach the distance). It worked great. I had an 8m putt, which I made! -> 3, 2. 7) The usual backhand anny flex with the Hellfire. This is a quite safe shot, putting the disc pin-high to the bottom start of the slope. The 10m uphill putt is rather nasty, however. I never managed to make it (not even in practice putts). -> 3, 3. 8) P3 backhand anny in the first round; Hellfire forehand hyzer in the second round. Both times I had about 10m to the pin, miss- ing the putts but landing close for pars. -> 3, 3. 9) Low forehand hyzer with the Hellfire. First I missed the 14m putt, next round I layed up from 25m with a low ceiling. -> 3, 3. 10) Trouble! First round I wanted to get creative, trying a Hellfire grenade ... horrible! Had to roller out, approach, missputt, double bogey. Second round another bad drive with the Hellfire forehand, had to pitch out with the P3 ... then I couldn't finish the hole because of people blocking the circle. (A later day I continued with a P3 anny, leaking OB and a missed putt.) I think I have to find a way to reliably just get down through the gap for a forehand Hellfire shot skipping off the aspalt towards the pin. That could give me pars. Or drive back- hand with the Hellfire, skipping off the sidewalk for a P3 upshot. -> 5, (6). 11) First round my Hellfire anny flex was perfect. It had a lot of height. Unfortunately it hit a tree and dropped straight down. Otherwise it could have gotten towards the basket. I made a thumber layup and hit the 5m putt. Second round my drive was too straight, the approach with the Hellfire forehand hit a tree, then layup and putt. -> 3, 4. 12) Great Hellfire backhand anny flex shot, navigating the late trees, hitting ground by the basket ... then rolling OB. :-( Missed the 12m par-putt then. Second round I had an early release, throwing the Hellfire short left into the woods, for- tunately it dropped right at the outside. From there I threw one of my best scramble shots: A P3 forehand flip-up, 45m next to the pin for an easy 5m putt. What a shot! :-) (This shows the uses of a slightly understable slow disc, which currently has no slot in my normal bag.) -> 4, 3. Three OBs in two rounds is too much. Two birdies is okay, at least one per round. Hole 10 was desaster, the rest was okay. The first round was a +4 (=40), the second round was a +6 (=42). Meanwhile I've gotten used to the anny flex, or call it force- over, or call it Nikko style throws. (It seems as if the Hellfire is quite a bit more overstable than my Felon, not necessarily on straight shots, but it fights out of annies much quicker. I'll have to compare them on those shots when I'm back home.) On several of the holes here in Goettingen this type of shot is use- ful. It is a disadvantage only on holes 3 and 5. Being forced to deal with a variety of hole designs with this same one driver is good practice. I'm getting to know it well. Also I'm getting to know these types of shots better. The two disc pair -- a putter and a driver, one slightly under- stable one overstable -- is a good combination, perfect for vaca- tions. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
