2020-07-21 Consistent Distance After a long time, I've been throwing discs again today. My thumb is healed so far that I can throw with my right hand again. The conditions were perfect today: 25C, only a slightest wind from the north (i.e. tailwind). I went to the sports field to throw some shots. I had 15 drivers with me and three midranges. All I did was throwing max distance shots. Apart from a few misreleases, all drivers flew 85 to 90 meters! Wow! The measurements: - Champ TB: 90, 90, 90 - ES TB: 86, 92, 92 - S TB 158g: 75, 88, 100! - DX TB lila: 90, 86, 90 - DX TB blue: 85, 91, 92 - Champ EG: 82, 88, 90 - Star EG: 88, 95!, 90 - DX EG white: 88, 90, 90 - DX EG ora: 85, 90, 90 - Star VL: 88, 93, 92 - Pro VL: 90, 91, 90 - Felon: 88, 85, 90 - Trespass: 86, --, 94 - Insanity: --, --, 92 - DX Leo: 87, 80, 88 Such distances have not used to be possible in this consistency for me. About all of the shots were in this range. All were standstill shots. The clue was the wrist outwards rotation for better nose-down angles. I managed well to adjust the shots to the discs. E.g. more hyzer for the more understable discs (Leo, Insanity, PVL, DX EG, STB), higher lines for the Leo especially, low straight lines for the SVL and the stable Teebirds, slight anny for the Felon and the Champ Eagle. The third shot with the light Star Teebird was one of my farthest throws yet. It landed beyond the slope top. This disc performed just as it is to be expected: On this calm day some farthest shots and some turned over. On more windy days even more turned over. Although it can provide maximum distance, it also is not reliable in doing so. This is why I don't bag it. Contrast it with the ES TB, which almost always provides good distance (and much more accurate placement), not too far but neither too short. Further discs that are unreliable, are pretty much all more understable discs: Leo, Insanity, blue DX TB, PVL. As they don't really add to the distance, why bag them? Wide-rim drivers as the Trespass don't feel as good in my hand as speed 7-9 drivers. The one disc that I flirt with most is the Star Eagle. For open max distance shots it works so well. The bit of turn in the be- ginning of the flight makes throwing full flights much easier. These are the shots that provide most distance. Just, it doesn't really fly farther than the SVL and it feels awkward to me for other types of shots apart from open distance lines. What I like to try out is a 9/X/-1/3 type of disc, probably an OLF. I do like the -1/3 flight of the Eagles and Trespass. There is something to it that my other discs can't provide. I think that with such a disc I could step up in distance a bit. It's not as wide-rim as the Trespass but a bit faster than my Eagles (which are in stability all over the place). Nonetheless, my main drivers -- ES TB and S VL -- have proven themselves good once more. As a side note: The 150g (!) DX Cobra, that I threw as well, flew 83, 75, 80 meters. Come on! 83m with a 150g DX Cobra! 8-O Trash the drivers! *LOL* http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
