2020-06-08 Lefty Because of an injury of my right thumb I cannot play disc golf currently ... at least not the normal way. Hence, I decided to play with my left arm. I went to the Wiley course with my ESP Comet for lefty one disc rounds. The Comet was a good choice. With my left arm I can relive the experiences I had when I first started disc golfing. The Comet was my main thrower in the first year or so. I got it to about 50m, pretty straight, usually a bit high and nose-up, but overall decent. Hyzers for approaches around trees worked as well. Annies were difficult. I only threw backhands. Forehands are probably more difficult with the left hand, but forehanding a Comet is even difficult with the strong arm. I took no putter with me, only to avoid having to carry it. A putter would have improved my play, as a Comet is not the best disc for putting. But the main problem with putting was my ina- bility to put spin on the disc. I wobbled it around, failing all longer putts. My first round was quite good. After a bogey on hole 1, I parred holes 2 through 5 with drop-ins each (after some great ap- proaches). Bogey on 6. Par on 7. Then an unfortunate three-putt on 8 for a double-bogey. And a nice par on 9. This makes 31 (+4), which is a score I get on bad days with my right hand and the normal bag as well! The throws were all fine, I simply wasn't able to hit a putt from outside 5m. From then on I didn't count my score anymore. After another half a round I met Martin, with whom I played one and a half round. One round he also joined to go lefty. (His left hand approach flick is unusually strong.) We talked a lot. He was one of the designers of the Wiley course. It was a good experience, watching him play, the lines he took, how he executed the shots. There's still a lot for me to learn! If at least I could start putting with my right hand again. The throwing would not be too bad with the left arm. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
