2020-05-13 Wiley Again After the round in Soehnstetten, I decided to play at the Wiley course as well. These were my first three rounds at the Wiley this year! At slight rain and only 12C I was alone on the course. The wet was not so nice, but being alone -- without other disc golfers and, more important, without people walking around -- was fine. Because of the rain, I went for a fast pace, playing only with my Wiley three disc set: - D P3 - JB Zone - Star Valk Between holes I often jogged. The scores were not the best: -1, E, +4. But the there was quite some good stuff in the rounds. - Hole 1: Always played the Valk backhand max distance shot here. First round I came in a bit short right, but had a long putt that I missed. Round two the Valk landed pin-high but 15m left. That made another par. Round three started horribly: too much hyzer on the drive, then a bad forehand zone upshot, long missputt, short missputt, double bogey! :-( But despite the last round, the dis- tance is there now, finally. The birdie is only waiting to fall! - Hole 2: The second easiest hole phsically, but mentally much tougher. Wenn I scored two birdies after 6m and 9m putts, but my consistency on the drive was low. I threw the Zone backhand all three rounds, which is a good choice, only I lack a line that I could visualize ... I should birdie here at least every second time. - Hole 3: The long big hyzer with the Valk worked well today. I made two birdies with 3m and 4m putts! Although this hole is phy- sically much harder than the hole 2, I drive much better on it. - Hole 4: The leaves have pretty much blocked the putter backhand anny route. Overall the room to work has shrunk much on this hole. I went with the Zone forehand each time. If I would have had the Teebird or the Felon with me, I might have used them, be- cause of the lower line I needed to take. Here my putting failed. Round one: missputt. Round two: spit-out from 7m. Round three: 12m missputt plus a 5m missputt, turning the birdie chance into a bogey. :-( I'm not fully sure about what disc I should use on this hole. It's pretty clear that a long curve to the right is the most open gap, thus it'll be a forehand, but I could attack it with Zone, TB, Valk or Felon. Haven't really tried the Valk much (and that's probably good so). As I usually play without Teebird or Felon at the Wiley, the Zone is what I use ... - Hole 5: The easiest hole ... without a single birdie! Twice I went with the P3 backhand, once with the Zone forehand on a slight (in this case too much) anny. Those two options are the usual ones, depending on the wind. With the P3 I try a bit of a stallout shot over the bush to then fade down to the basket. For the Zone a slight anny flex is the best play. (I've thrown Tee- bird thumbers on the hole as well.) Again putting problems: Spit-out, 10m miss, 6m miss. - Hole 6: Low forehand hyzer with the Valk around the left of the trees is the play. Unfortunately the first available tree caught two of the three drives! That was horrible! :-( Two bogeys and a par. That's less than I expected. - Hole 7: This one is about the same as the previous one, also a low forehand hyzer, also with the Valk. It's a straighter throw, but you need to give it enough hyzer. This is what I forgot on the first round, went left into the bushes and rolled down to the bottom of the slope. Threw a forehand Zone roller up and out, which was quite lucky. Unfortunately didn't make the 9m par-putt. On the second round I went long with the drive and missed the 9m birdie-putt. Round three provided another breakdown: Hit the second available tree, made a horrible Zone forehand shot, missed the 11m par-putt, missed the 6m bogey-putt ... and scored my first ever double-bogey on this hole. (Now hole 2 is the last hole that I've not double-bogeyed yet.) - Hole 8: Big backhand hyzers with the Valk, no question. Unfor- tunately I threw much too high twice, hitting an early branch and dropping down. My putting saved me. I scored a birdie with a 9m putt, and saved two pars with 8m and 6m putts. This is how I like it. - Hole 9: In want of the first birdie. As on hole 1: Backhand Valk max distance drives. Threw 90m, slightly right, on the first round -- probably my second best drive on the hole. Missed the 14m putt. On round two a straighter landing 85m drive with also a 14m missed putt. Round three I had too much hyzer but still came to the bushes. Made a run from 21m, which I missed -- as expect- ed. Thus three pars with long putts. This is clearly better than usually on this hole. Despite the bad holes, there's clearly development success to be seen. :-) I had drives on hole 1 and 9 that get me into birdie chances. I played a great hole 3. And, despite many missputts, I also made a bunch of putts outside of my comfort zone. I wished that I would have thrown the 14-22m jump putts high and far enough for a chance to make the basket. Actually they were perfect layups, landing a bit before the basket and sliding/rolling towards it. But this way I don't have any chance to make it. Overall a successful time, and good to be on the course again. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
