2020-05-04 Broke the Distance Tier After another day on the field it is clear: I've broken the dis- tance tier. I do have more distance consistently, now. :-) The change was in the grip, rolling the wrist more outwards. I.e. having the hand a bit more under than over the disc, and the palm a bit more upwards. This helped to get the nose more down. In consequence the flight characteristics of the more understable discs changed a lot. Hyzer-flips required this change to work at all. (The flight of more overstable discs didn't much change.) Without the nose-up, lower lines are possible. Overall the turn part of the flight is more pronounced and really adds to the flight (instead of being pretty much only a problem as before). Today, I threw four rounds with 17 discs (the whole stability spectrum). One round was big annies (Felon and Hellfire went 90m), the other three rounds were max distance shots, on whatever lines worked best for the specific disc. With three straightish distance shots I reached those distances: - Trespass: 92, 90, 94 - Star Valk: 93, 93, 87 - Pro Valk: 89, 96, 100! - DX EG 171g: 93, 80, 105!! - DX EG 175g: 87, -, 75 - Star EG: -, 90, 86 - Champ EG: 83, 85, 85 - Q JLS: 88, 90, 80 - ES TB: 87, 97!, 85 - Champ TB: 77, 85, 85 - Star TB 158g: 85, 87, 85 - Felon: 78, 87, 92! - Hellfire: 90, 83, 83 - Insanity: 87, 78, 78 - BigZ Sting: 82, -, - - DX Leo: -, -, 88 - 300 F7: 82, -, 85 (The understable discs sometimes turned over and throwllered. I didn't count them. The S EG is a disc I sometimes release too low.) We have the Trespass with three throws slightly over 90m! We have the Star Valk with three throws at 90m! We have the Pro Valk with three throws between 90m and 100m (but with more left-right variance). We have the DX Eagle with two throws over 90m (and one turned over). We have the ES Teebird with three consistent throws between 85 and 95 meters. All this is clearly one tier farther than previously. And more important: There's consistency as well! :-) The distance con- sistency from throw to throw and from day to day is what shows that I've broken a distance tier. (To be noted: these were all standstill throws!) Concerning the bag: - ES TB and S VL remain the basis of the bag. They fly farther now, but at the same time remain consistent as before. - On big annies the Felon is not the best placement disc, but that's not for what I have it in the bag. Besides, it flies far on straight lines as well. - Although the Pro Valk and DX Eagle showed big distances, they are less reliable in placement aspects. If I bag the DX Eagle, then not so much for max distance shots. I do like the Eagle's flight, but I value consistency more. - The Star Eagle had provided good results as well, more so yes- terday. That would be a more reliable version of the Eagle, but it doesn't fly farther than the Star Valk I already bag. - The disc that did impress me today is the Trespass. It had so much consistency in distance and placement. Plus, as a distance driver it is a different type of disc ... and it has the same Ea- gle flight (-1/3). I don't plan to bag it currently, but I'll keep it within focus ... probably take it to the Wiley course for hole 1 and 9, when it opens again. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
