2020-04-24 Thoughts Had a private message conversation with dwalk77 on DGCR. Here's the part explaining my bag and current state: How's the Valkyrie flying for you? Is it your furthest driver? I'm assuming you get it further out than your Felon. I got one in Star plastic recently, and I haven't been able to get it to turn much yet. I'm not sure that I have the arm speed yet for it (I think my average max distance is more like 275') My average course distance is around the same. On the field I throw 90m (~300') shots with some regularity, but not on the course. (I've never birdied the 95m and 100m holes on my local course, yet.) My farthest throws were with my 175g Pro Valk (~380'), which is much more understable than the 170g Star Valk in my bag. I don't bag the Pro Valk, because it offers no reliability. The far shots were mere luck. My farthest field throws are a variety of discs, the usual suspects are: 170g Star Valk, 175g Pro Valk, 171g DX Eagle, 175g beat DX Teebird, 171g Lucid Felon. The Felon might be a surprise, but I suffer a lot from nose-up releases -- my big- gest problem (I think my wrist joint is not as flexible as other's) -- also I'm not good with hyzer releases as well (thus I don't like US discs for hyzer flips). Flat or annies feel more natural to me. Those long big annies with the Felon or my Hellfire that pan out and land flat at 90m (300') are wonderful and equally surprising! It seems as if the technique would simply work better for me with annies and the nose angle seems to be less of a problem. I've got only those two Valks. There the same applies as for the Destroyer classification: Look at the underside of the wing, if it curves inwards, it's more overstable, if it curves outwards it's rather understable. My Star Valk goes dead-straight (rather -1/1, like a longer Buzzz), the Pro Valk flies more -2/1. A long time I couldn't understand the Star Valk at all. It just didn't work at all ... and then, at one time, it worked and made my bag (replacing the straight (0/0) DX Teebird). Also, I noticed the Zone is your only "mid". Do you ever find yourself wanting a little more speed or straighter shots for your mid? Or is that where you go to powering down a Teebird? Just curious I don't feel much distance hole there. I can throw the JB Zone to about 60m (200') and the Star Teebird works well from 60-80m (200-270'). If it's an open hole without wind, I can also use my forehand, which is a bit shorter. I think that midranges might become useful if I'd throw the Teebird 350'. But currently I don't feel a wish to add a Buzzz or such. Although every once in a while I ponder on the thought to bag my ESP Comet for low-power glidey woods shots. All of my discs are high-power discs (i.e. nothing understable), this has a negative effect on my form, I think. I could throw equally far (and more accurate) if I'd power down and throw more US and glidey stuff. I like the Comet a lot (despite the fact that I cannot forehand it, which is a problem in my minimalistic bag, where every disc is used in various ways). The Sting is another such discs. I can throw that up to 85m (285') as well. But then I think ``wind'' and ``reliabili- ty'' and everything goes back to the usual setup. ;-) The JB Zone flies like my Star Teebird in style, i.e. not as overstable as my ESP Zone, which I dropped from the bag in favor for the more usable JB Zone. Currently I'm thinking about using the DX Eagle more, but I'm not sure how I get it into my mindset. My decision path usually is: 1) short drive: - 1a) with fade or full power: Zone - 1b) without fade: P3 2) long drive: - 2a) with fade: Teebird - 2b) without fade: Valkyrie 3) strange situations: Felon The Eagle fits into 2a and 2b, both a bit, but with different flavor: It flips up, which the others doen't. It can go as far as the Valk but with more of an S-line. I like it in many ways, but it doesn't fit my bag structure, or rather my tought process, yet. Thus it's only the backup disc. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
