2020-01-12 Goettingen 2 Today another round on the Goettingen course, late in the after- noon, just before dark. On hole 1 I met Flo(cki), with whom I played the round. He was very kind. As an Ultimate player he just started to play disc golf some months ago. In his bag he had a Pure for putting, a Deputy for upshots, some Crosslab midrange he seldom used, a Fury as his main driver, and another rather understable driver, which I didn't get the name. After a birdie on hole 1, I missed the putt on hole 2 and got a bogey. The drive on 2 was better than the last time, but still the Insanity kept turning ... it starts to drive me insane! *lol* Horrible hole 3 with a double bogey, just normal shots, no OB. At least a par on hole 4. The usual 4 on hole 5. That's okay. I play it like a par 4. A par on hole 6. Man I want to get a birdie there some time. It really isn't that difficult. Then hole 7 ... ;-) We had quite some headwind on that hole ... yes, the one with the handrail where you cannot throw a hyzer. I tried something else this time: forehand roller. I released it with about a two o'clock angle ... and it instantly turned, al- ready landing at ten o'clock ten meters in front of me, cutting hard left into the bushes flirting with OB. What a horrible shot! How would anyone want to use such a turn-friendly disc for any reliable shot?! Give me some HSS, please! ... not that piece of insanity! Well, from there another forehand roller to get round the corner ... just a few meters. Then an approach that as well turned over and away from the basket. Next a forehand to have the wind always on top of the flight plate. Unfortunately I didn't think about landing on the luv side of the basket for a tailwind putt. Thus putted into the wind and missed. Back in for a triple-bogey 6! :-( I take all the overstability of the world to not have to throw with such an understable disc. (The C P3 has gained some turn as well by now.) On hole 8 the wind got underneath, lifting the disc into OB. Took a bogey. On 9 a bad drive, landing short. From there a fabu- lous second shot for a par. On 10 the only really bad shot of the round, when I threw the second shot straight into OB. Had to set- tle with a five. On 11 everything fine again: par. On the last hole another drive turning too much. It flew even past the basket ... but into OB. Had a bad lie from where it went into OB, but settled with a bogey. With a total score of 46 (+10) this was no good round. Three OBs, three multiple bogeys. Only four pars and one birdie. The main problem was the increased wind and the descreased resistance to turn of the Insanity. On this course, especially with wind, a more reliable (i.e. more overstable) disc would be a better choice ... or if I only had a Zone with me. The C P3, as I said, has gained some good amount of turn as well (partly coming form OAT caused by more difficult releases because of the slight dome it has, compared to a Zone). But still: I didn't play well, that should not be neglected. ;-) Nonetheless, I had a fun round with Flo(cki). He played +4, by leaving out the multiple bogeys. I hope I'll meet him again, another day. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
