2019-08-19 After a long time, I managed to return to the course. There was motivation from the just finished Pro Worlds ... the first that I followed during it happening. It was interesting to see Emerson Keith's performance, Barela's up-down-up-down, McBeast's overall performance and Ricky's charge after the horrible start. Today, I simply wanted to play again. Went there with my normal course bag (D P3 (x2), JB Zone, ES TB, S VL, DX EG, Lucid Felon), but played with only the core three (D P3, ES TB, S VL) in my hand. First round I had pars except a double bogey on hole 6 and a bir- die on hole 8. Most drives touched branches or similar stuff, needing upshots. On hole 1 I threw the Valkyrie about pin-height but right. The forehand TB on hole 4 had a nice line, but was just a bit too much power. It landed 10m long. On hole 6 I went tree, tree and a missed putt. On hole 8 the hyzer with the Valk flew nice and landed a bit long, but I canned the long putt. :-) The drive on hole 9 was great! I threw the Valk on a fulltime hyzer angle up to the second bushes line. Unfortunately I missed the 12m putt (for my first birdie on that hole). In the end I scored 28 (+1). The immediately following second round started with a bogey after a short missed putt on hole 1. Then another bogey after two missed putts on hole 2. :-( On hole 3 I missed a 10m putt, which is not too bad. On hole 4 I went a bit too tight, had to lay up for par. Then on hole 5 I realized the idea I had in round one: I threw a thumber with the Teebird. I went a bit lower than I thought, but thus skipped on the flight plate ... to rest near the basket. Easy birdie. On hole 6 (which I double-bogeyd last round) I only hit the last tree, but then sank the 10m hyzer putt around a tree! :-) Hole 7 I went too straight and went down the slope, pitched out for a short putt. On hole 8 I came in a bit short, missed the long putt. Then hole 9: I failed to keep the Valk low, landing it short and left. As I threw a practice drive with the Teebird (right side but up to the second bushes row!), I used the P3 forehand for the approach. Unfortunately it turned way too much (either because of OAT or because of headwind), landing in the flowerbeds again. With a bad standing, I yanked a backhand shot into the bushes, too far from the basket to sink it -- a horrible hole! This left me with 29 (+2) for the round. Overall I was a bit frustrated with the result, especially the two short missed putts at the start of round two and the two dou- ble bogeys. I would have wished for under par scores. Also, I am frustrated with hole 2, which should be so easy, but I have such hard times dealing with it. It is wide open on the right side and it is short. Why don't I just birdie it? Most of my shots land left of the pin, but the right side is more open. If I throw a hyzer, I hardly ever throw it wide enough to ap- proach the basket from the right side. That's a mental problem of my line. Yes, there often is a headwind from the right, which is bad for RHBH hyzers, but it would be easier to adjust the line to it than try to get to the basket straight or from the left, as there are two trees nearby. This is a problem that can be solved by simply practicing this hole. I need to find out where to aim for and how hard and high to throw. (Furthermore, if I throw spike hyzers, I am even able to score an ace, like I accidently did some time ago.) Today, I threw all three discs twice. The second RHBH TB came to rest under the basket. This is how it has to be. It's time to spend a practice hour on that hole alone someday. There is no other hole on the course which would need such prac- ticing. Holes 1, 3, 8 and 9 are clear what line to throw. Holes 4 and 7 are mainly a matter of release angle and power. Hole 6 is mainly a matter of aim to avoid the trees (or thumber it through the branches). And hole 5 has putter FH, putter BH and TB thumber lines -- wind conditions and getting the factors right is key ... it's simply a touch shot. While watching the Worlds video coverage I came to the insight, that more spin is what I neet to throw longer putts. I tried to focus on that today. It worked quite well. Well, it is simple: In order to improve, I need to play more. ;-) http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
