2019-04-25 Another Minus Three at Wiley It was so much like on November 15th last year: A quick round in the evening, same three discs in my hand, same three down, almost the same scores on the holes, only the temperatures were much higher. It were just under 20 deg C, the sun was slowly sinking, it had quite some wind from the West. Hole 1: Shot the Valk almost pin-height but right, 15m layup which was a half-run and almost made it. Drop-in for par. Hole 2: Forehand Teebird (because of the right-to-left wind). Landed right at the tree. Straddled and sank the 5m putt for bir- die. Hole 3: Great hyzer with the Valk for a 3m birdie putt, which I made. Hole 4: Forehand Teebird, skipped before the big tree and settled 4m from the basket with an open look. Made the birdie putt. This was only my second birdie on this hole! (The first birdie on this hole was my first overall birdie ... long time ago.) Hole 5: Would have liked to have the Zone, but because I did not, I threw the P3 forehand. It was on ace line, almost. Clearly no need to have the Zone. The P3 and my forehand form do just fine. Was a bit long but hit the 6m putt for birdie. Hole 6: Took the (wonderful) thumber route with the Teebird, but unfortunately hit a late tree, thus had a long putt, which I layed up, then dropped in for par. Hole 7: Forehand Teebird, hit a tree on the outside halfway down the hole. The disc came to rest about pin-height but half down the slope. Had a window for a backhand hyzer pitch-out with the P3. Then made the 4m putt for par. Hole 8: Valk on hyzer, tickled a twig, came to rest a bit long behind a tree. Had to straddle far out, unfortunately missed the 8m putt. Made the 3m comebacker for par. Hole 9: Bad Valk shot (much too high). Came down near the left end of the flower beds. Approached with a forehand Teebird shot. Had a 4m putt into a headwind left. Hit it ... onto the cage. Damn! Had to accept a bogey. ... same as last November. With this round I tied my personal best for the third time. All those three-down rounds I did play with the same three discs: Star Valkyrie, Echostar Teebird, D-Line P3. There's nothing to gain from other discs on this course (except in stronger wind). Holes 2 through 8 are well in birdie range. Hole 1 by now is bir- dieable as well. Only hole 9 is out of reach. But I should see to get the par there with consistency. Maybe I should just drive forehand on this hole when there is west wind. This will not yield the longest drive but I'll probably be more center fairway. As I won't birdie it anyways, I don't need to take the risk of shots going bad for the possibility of being a few meters closer. It's not worth it. A few meters more upshot distance doesn't matter. And then I should care to place my approach right side of the basket for anything but a headwind putt. That's just a mind thing. Anyways. This was a big round today! It just flowed ... And I'm getting better at it. :-) Once again the VL-TB-P3 combination confirmed to be the core of my bag ... and all that is necessary for the Wiley course. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
