2019-04-21 Deep Flight Plate Grip After having read a thread in the DGCR-Forum [0] yesterday about the so called Deep Flight Plate Grip, I experimented with it to- day ... and -- wow: I instantly got 10m more distance! I had several shots over 90m today, one even over 100m! The grip thing is simple: Just hold the disc like you grap a suitcase handle. I.e. you powergrip it and put your thumb deep into the flight plate (thus the name). You neither put your thumb at the rim above your index finger to create a pivot point, nor do you leave your pinky out for more nose-down disc orientation ... as I used to do. You just bend your wrist, that's all. Incredible, the result: I gained 10m more distance without chang- ing anything else. I'm not even sure if I had to give more hyzer, maybe that was only my impression because of the slight direction-changing wind. I think the flights were even pretty nose-down, at least not more nose-up than my usual grip. Seems I have to film myself to analyze it in more detail. Anyways, some results of my three rounds of field drives: The Pro Valkyrie flew over the fence on top of the hillside on the far end of the field and landed beyond the track. This is 100m in distance plus 3m in embankment elevation (plus a slightly uphill field) ... and this shot was from a standstill (as all of my throws)! I had another two throws to the upper edge of the embankment, one with the Pro Valk again, the other with the Prime Trespass. Then I had two laser beam shots halfway up the embankment with the Star Valk. Furthermore I had 90m shots (start of the embankment) with: DX TB (purple), Insanity, DX EG (orange and white) and RR. The Star Valk and the DX TB shots were laser-straight. The Eagles were full flex shots, the Trespass shot was a flex line as well (with a hard fade). The Pro Valk shot was rather a right- traveling shot, but still with a fade. (PVL has more turn than fade; Eagles have less turn than fade.) Notable are the Champ (and ES) Teebird shots, because they flew straight-to-fade, which, of course, reduces distance. But the Champ Teebird went 85m on a straight-to-fade line, twice! Big distance, here I come! :-D Clearly, this is no giant leap, but I did break through a pla- teau. As all the distance tweaks: they are tweaks, which, com- bined, increase the distance. This was another one. (Adding an X-Step one day, might probably add another 10m, eventually. Currently, still, I don't think it's worth it. Standstill drives have consistency and difficult ground advantages.) Of course, the grip is completely new to me now, but currently I think I'll use it for max distance drives only. Most of the shots I'll continue to throw with the previous grip, I think. The Valkyries have confirmed their place in my bag, both of them. I simply have to use the PVL more ... and get used to throwing understable discs. They'll open up new possibilities for me. I come to like the Eagles more and more, now that I throw them more often and they are worked in better. They have a nice flight, especially the DX ones ... but currently there's no room left and no slots free in my bag. ;-) But for two disc rounds, I'll probably continue to go P3/EG.
