2019-04-20 Felon, Eagle, new bag I've been to the field for an hour to throw some shots. The weather was fine (18 deg C, sunny, a bit of wind from all direc- tions). The discs flew long distances. Already the first round I got discs onto the hillside on the far end of the field, which starts at 90m. This currently is my dis- tance limit. The orange DX Eagle (171g) landed on the hillside, the Leo as well. Insanity and Trespass flew 90m, Pro VL, S VL, ES TB and the X Comet were beyond 85m. Second round I threw big annies with all discs. Some turned into rollers (the Valkyries especially). Eagles and Teebirds held the annies nicely. The Felon was a blast! It flew 90m onto the hill- side on a huge anny line! This was not the first time that I no- ticed that the Felon flies really far for me, despite being so overstable. After two rounds of different shots, which I didn't write down, I did a fifth round with max distance shots again. The Felon again flew 85m after a slight anny release! This time the Star Eagle, however, flew a full flex line well into the hillside to about 95m. This was the second best shot I ever had on this field. Summing it up: The Felon once again underlined its versatility and great results. It now definitely conquered the slot in my bag and at the same time pushed the Champ Teebird out. I've used the ES Teebird much more recently. The Champ TB was only a backup anyways, which I don't need anymore as I like to bag the Felon so much. Well, the Champ Teebird was my first driver at all, and for quite some time my only driver. Furthermore, it is my first and only Ace disc. It had been in my bag ever since and only was pushed aside when I wanted to beat in the ES Teebird. Now is the first time I take it out of my bag. (This is the last disc of my origi- nal core bag -- D P2, ESP Comet, Champ Teebird -- that I remove from my new bag.) The new bag is clear: - D P3 (2) -- putting, short straight upshots and drives - JB/ESP Zone -- short OS upshots and drives - ES Teebird -- main straight-to-fade driver, thumbers - Star Valkyrie -- main straight driver, all lines - Pro Valkyrie -- more US (least important disc) - Lucid Felon -- OS utility I throw all of the discs BH and FH. Usually I use the Teebird for my thumbers, but if I need different turning dynamics or dif- ferent distances I can use other discs as well. I don't throw distance rollers at all on the course (but I could with the Valks). I am pretty confident, however, with short roll- ers of different kind, usually with the Zone, to get out of trou- ble. Maybe this will change when/if I can throw drivers farther, but currently I feel no need for midranges at all. Distance-wise there is only a small gap where a mid would be better than either a driver or a putter, but it's not worth to carry mids for that case. Bagging further discs doesn't improve my scores, currently. Some last words about the Eagles: I've played a lot with the Star Eagle lately. Most of my recent two-disc-rounds were P3/EG, which was a fine combination. I agree with so many others that the Ea- gle is more workable on different lines than the Teebird. This comes from it having some turn, which makes it easier to -- well -- turn it a bit. Yet, it still has a consistent fade. The Star Eagle is like a mixture of the ES Teebird and the Star Valkyrie. With my main bag it feels more convenient to have these two flight characteristics separately, but for minimal discs the Ea- gle is the best compromize. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
