2019-04-06 Goettingen, part 2 Rounds 3 and 4. This time with warmer weather (18 deg C), dry grass and slight wind from the south. The scores (+6, +9) resemble those of yesterday (+6, +10), the problems were different, however. Was hole 4 the main problem yesterday, so was it hole 10 today. I was four strokes better on hole 4 today, but three strokes worse on hole 10. A quick run-through: Hole 1: Again two birdies. :-) Hole 2: Again two pars, one of them almost a birdie. I should throw a bit wider line. Hole 3: Two pars (no tree hit and no OBs). Today I used the driver for a low hyzer, skip shot. This worked better than the P3 drive yesterday. Hole 4: Still hit some trees, but avoided OB completely. FH off the tee with the P3 might be the best way to go ... Hole 5: The Star Eagle worked much better for the drive than the light Star Teebird yesterday. I.e. the first drive was fine both rounds, but again my second shot with the P3 was the problem. Once I even faded through the trees OB. I have to keep that second shot low and out on the grass! Scored 6 and 4. Hole 6: Like hole 2, two pars, a bit better drives than yester- day, one almost a birdie. I should throw a bit wider line. Hole 7: With the Eagle I could attack that hole much better. I did shank one approach horribly, thus scoring one bogey. The other round I approached forehand, which resulted in a par. Hole 8: (My discs hate that hole!) Got a par and a bogey, because I once drifted too far down, didn't approach far enough and then had handrails in the way. The turbo putt through the handrails only hit the cage. Hole 9: First round better than yesterday but still a bit too high, hit the tree branches. I have to keep it really low next time. Second round my putt slipped OB. :-) Had to take a 5. Hole 10: Yesterday I wrote that it played better than expected. Today it played more as expected. Had a great drive in the first round, but some unfortunate straight skips and no flair skip, made the disc stop one disc width OB. This consequently made a 4. The next round I overcorrected; the disc flew hyzer all the way down on the parking lot. The upshot was a bit far, missed the putt, scored a 5. Hole 11: First round was fine, but if you don't fly over the path and a bit up the hill, you simply have no lines to the basket and not even to approach. Scored a bogey. Second round the branches dropped the disc right onto the paving stone path, which I con- sidered to be probably OB. That was bad luck. With out lines to take and even a missed putt I scored a 6! Hole 12: Took the driver the first round, but was not confident enough to throw it with a bit of anny, as I should have, thus I faded left into the woods, fortunately not too deep. Had a short thumb roller out, then a too long putt and a comebacker for a bogey. The second round I threw the P3 which flew just perfect! Had about 10m left, but was not able to sink it. Got a par at least. I'm really longing for better scores! Last November I scored +2 with only the JB Zone and only 3 deg C! Now I'm struggling hard to get below +6 with a driver and my main putter mold -- what a disgrace! I really should play a P3 only round next. Nonetheless, the Star Eagle was fine, at least much better than the light Star TB. Maybe only on hole 10 and 12 I should rather stick to the P3. Putting inside 8m or so is fine. Putting from 8m to 15m is a mess. I think I cannot get enough juice into the disc for the distance, thus I start to pitch-putt very high. Those shots I al- ways miss the basket right or hit trees on the right side of my line. Layups from about 20-30m are a problem as well. I've started to go forehand for them as I less fear errant shots this way. Since I've switched my grip, my forehand is dependable. I've started to even like it. :-) Next time (possibly tomorrow), I'll go with the same two discs again. I think that's the best pair I have with me. But I want to play a P3 only round as well. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
