2019-03-03 Putter Tournament Played a putter only tournament in Ehningen. It was a single round on the normal course, just replacing hole 18 with 3b. In my bag were four D-P3s, a JB Zone and an ESP Zone. My main P3 was the red-marked. I used the rainbow-stamped P3 for much of the putting. I used the slightly orange, black-stamped P3 for some drives, but it either is more flippy or I had more OAT with it. The fourth P3 (black-marked) I never used. Of the Zones, the JB was the more usable. It was my main overstable driver(-putter). The ESP Zone is just too overstable for straight-to-fade drives. If the ZB Zone is Champ-Teebird-like, the ESP Zone is more Felon-like. The disc selection was great. I've never wanted any- thing else than what I had. I could have left the domey and the fourth P3 out. The putters are really settled now. P3s and Zones are all I need there. Two of each are fine. The two Zones are different, the P3s are almost identical. The rules today were best-shot double drives. I.e. one had two drives and could play from the better one. This allowed for some experiments when the first drive was fine. I used it mainly to practice forehands. But now let me have a look at the round. It started out terrible. Well, not at once. Our group stated at hole 3. I threw a nice anny drive with the P3, about 60% to the basket. Then approached with the JB Zone to the foot of the little hill where the basket is mounted upon. So far so good. Then hit the 4m putt onto the band. :-( Rollaway. Layup. Double bogey! :-( Next hole, shanked both drives right at the first trees, a few meters from the teepad. :-( Another tree hit. Approach. Layup, Double bogey. Again! :-( Next hole. Good drive (best of the group). Jumper-range layup much too short. 8m putt or so. Hit it high at the band again, Rollaway. Layup. Double Bogey! :-( Already six strokes over, after only three holes! Horrible! My putting confidence was completely down. (After I had putted rath- er well during warm-up.) Then at least I started playing. I managed to play a decent rest of the round. Got pars on most holes, with some bogeys on long holes or some bad throws, but all in the normal range. I am con- tent with the rest of the round. Especially as I managed to get a birdie on the last hole. :-) It was hole 2 of the course where I threw a beautiful long anny with the P3, parking the hole! This time I hit the 3m putt! I scored +9 on the par 54 course. If I substract realistic 5 strokes from the three double bogeys, I would have scored +4, which I'd say is pretty good. Of the group I was the best driving player. I often had the long- est drive. I had a usable forehand. But my putting was worst, even excluded the first three holes. This well reflects my disc golfing in the last months. I worked a lot on the field, improv- ing my driving technique and distance. I now see the results. :-) As well: I play with putters a lot. This tournament was no res- triction to my game. I played just as usual, only omiting the faster discs. But smooth woodsy shots and putting really were my problems. I do have to work on longer putts. I need to have some- thing workable there. That currently is the biggest problem in my game. All in all, it was a nice tournament today. I'm happy I did par- ticipate in it. Playing putters was just too attractive. :-) http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
