2018-12-27 Quick Round at Dusk I've played a quick round at Wiley at sunset. I had to be quick, thus I chose to use only two discs: my putter and a driver. It was almost dark already, thus I chose to use the Star Valkyrie, because it is in neonish yellow color and the disc best visible in low light. I pared all holes, scoring 27. But it was an interesting round. Holes 1 through 4 and 8 and 9 were all holes where I placed a jumper layup under the basket (i.e. < 3m). On holes 5 through 7, I each had a 7m birdie putt that I missed (twice low and once high). The round felt almost too easy. My layups where on point. Even on hole 9 I did put the 27m jumper layup under the basket for a drop-in. These jumper layups are what saves my game. The forehands on 4, 6, and 7 turned out pretty well. Usually I forehand premium plastic Teebirds, but that (flat) Valkyrie real- ly flicked well! I'm starting to really love the Valkyrie. (Despite I couldn't get any sense out of it in the beginning.) I think that I like the Valkyrie better than the Roadrunner, because it has a bit more HSS, which makes it more reliable wind. Stable discs are more the type of discs I like. Understable is fine for fieldwork, but not dependable enough on the course. I rather sacrifice some meters of distance for not getting surprised badly. But the Roadrunner is not bad, and it gives me the best (dependable) distance. The three missed birdie putts today were bad. I practiced no put- ting before the round, as I had so little time before it got dark. After the round I did some putting, hitting 3 of 5 from 5m and 2 of 5 from 8m. I shouldn't have missed all three from 7m in the round ... Of the drives, only one was bad: On hole 2 I decided to try a big hyzer with the Valk instead of going straight with the P3, as I do usually. The result reminded me why I usually throw a putter not a driver. I cannot manage to hang the hyzer wide right (oftentimes there's even a right-to-left wind on that hole). If I go hyzer, I always land left of the basket. That's definitely a shot on that hole to practice more. Maybe I should attack it forehand instead. It's only 65m. With the usual wind from the right, a forehand might be the better option ... http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
