2018-12-10 More Birdies I've played four more rounds at the Wiley course. Actually, it were two rounds with two separate disc sets each. First, I played Star Valkyrie + Echostar TB + P3 vs. Champ Roadrunner + Champ TB + P3. Both of them are most successful sets for me. The results confirmed it. It was cold (2 deg C), wet and pretty windy (west wind). Still, I played -1 and -3 (tied my per- sonal best). #1: Solid pars with both sets. #2: All shots with P3s. Shot a bogey and a birdie. Hard to con- nect these scores to the one or other set. #3: Parked the Valk for an easy birdie! Good RR shot, but needed an approach for par. #4: Both forehand drives with the Teebirds hit wood. Made the par both times. #5: All shots with the P3s. Shot a par and a birdie. #6: Forehand drives with both Teebirds for solid pars. #7: Again forehand drives with the Teebirds. The Champ TB layed ground for a birdie, whereas the ES TB had to go with a par. #8: Great hyzers with VL and RR. Sunk both birdie putts from about the same distance. #9: Fully messed up the RR drive -- horrible! The Valk drive was bad as well, but at least made it half way to the basket, which was enough for a par. The RR needed a second drive plus approach and putt for bogey. This made and -1 and a -3, or let's better say it's a -2 on aver- age. In more detail: The P3 holes were 4/2 and 3/2. The FH TB holes were: 3/3, 3/3 and 3/2. The VL/RR holes were: 3/3, 2/3, 2/2 and 3/4. Hence, the biggest difference were the P3s, which actually were the discs that were the same in both bags! The Teebirds are almost interchangable. They fly about the same and lead to about the same results. The faster drivers had a two stroke difference in favor for the Valkyrie. But still that isn't much. If I wouldn't have shanked the last drive, the difference would be just one stroke, which is well in the range of luck. I throw both discs just about the same angles. Just in a direct headwind the Valkyrie holds up better. In this case the RR needs more hyzer. Taken both rounds together, I scored six birdies and only two bad mistake bogeys. I'm happy with that. :-) The disc combinations have proven successful. The P3s and premium plastic Teebirds were set already. The speed 9 drivers have pret- ty much replaced my straight DX Teebirds. Any one of these two three-disc sets (or combine them for having backups) is most suc- cessful for me currently. I'd only add the ESP Zone for tourna- ments. Right after that round I played another one, with VL+TB+P3 vs. Wasp alone. I wasn't that concentrated. The first set scored +2 with all pars and bogeys on the last two holes. Not the best round. The Wasp-only round was worse. I've never much played with the Wasp, thus it was more a getting to know round. Hole 1 into the headwind I turned it over right away. ;-) Approaches and putts felt somehow strange with the Wasp as well. I took a 5 on hole 1. :-/ Good drive but a birdie putt spit-out on hole 2. Bad drive and bogey on 3. Par on 4. Missed birdie putt on 5. Unspectacular pars on 6 and 7 (both forehand). Took the straight line with an anny flex on hole 8, but hit a tree and missed a putt, thus bogey. On hole 9 a really bad short drive which placed me right behind big bushes. Had to throw a huge forehand sky roller (much sky and little roller). Approached successfully with a thumber (as most times on this hole) and putted the bogey. This made a +5 (no birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey). Well, I should just keep the midranges out of consideration. ;-) Nonetheless, it was a successful time on the course today. And it felt so good to play again! For days I had been longing to go out and throw ... Now I went out and threw a three under! :-) http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
