2018-11-17 One Disc Soehnstetten It was a cold (5 degrees Celsius) and windy (east wind) day. Lydi, Jona and I went to Soehnstetten to play a round. It was Lydi's third round disc golfing, with long breaks in between. Jona played for the first time. We started with the basic throw- ing technique, made some practice shots, did some putting. I had a bunch of discs with me. This time I let them choose among some midranges. Lydi picked a new JB Zone (because it was pink) and a beat DX Shark. Jona picked a newish Z-Flx Buzzz and a beat DX Roc (after I told him that the new Z Wasp would not be the best option for him). After the practice throws, I asked them, which of the two discs they would like to play with. Lydi went with the Zone, Jona with the Buzzz. I took my new C-Line P3, which I wanted to learn, and to wear the new off. Both started out with the typical rising shots that dump hard left ... carried by the strong wind. The conditions were rough. Not the best weather for beginner rounds ... and not the best course, as I have to admit. But they took it easy. After some holes I asked Lydi to switch from the Zone to the beat Shark. This was a much better choice. She could throw pretty straight shots with that disc. The things I told them were: tilting the wrist down, reaching away from the body and on a straight line towards the chest, and aiming low and level. Straight reach-back instead of rounding in- creased the power. Throwing low and level increased the distance. Later in the round they showed some really nice shots with longer straight flight or slight S-curves. What was rather horrible in the beginning became pretty decent later. The elevation changes were a big difficulty for them, because of the necessity for different throwing planes, because of rolla- ways, and because of the additional power necessary to throw uphill. The wind was another difficulty. Next time, I'll take newbies to the Wiley course, for sure. Lydi shot 95 (7x4, 4x5, 3x6, 3x7, 1x8). Jona shot 86 (2x3, 5x4, 7x5, 3x6, 1x7). The course is par 54. My own score was 64 (2x2, 7x3, 6x4, 3x5). All three double-bogeys were putting problems with small rollaways. Both birdies were big putts. :-) I had the same score one month ago with a full bag and good weather -- today I played with not more than the C-Line P3! Some holes were too long for the P3. A Teebird or such would have pro- vided more distance, and thus would have surely lowered my score. The C-Line plastic feels not as good in my hand as D-Line, but the C-Line P3 does not lose its fade that much. It flies like a fresh D-Line P3. I wanted to get experience with this disc. That I achieved. Actually, I rather would have liked to play with the JB Zone. Seems it would fly about the same. Probably a bit more OS in the beginning but a bit straighter after some tree and stone hits. The JB plastic is so grippy! A perfect winter disc, I believe. On a windstill day, a Comet could be a good disc for a one disc round, it seems. All in all, I (and we) had a fine time out there. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
