2018-11-15 Minus Three at Wiley I played two quick rounds at the Wiley course today after work. It was the hour before dusk. The weather was misty with a slight east wind. No one else was on the course. After only a few bad warmup putts I started a round. The last time, I wrote that I would want to play with P3, TB and RR. My actual bag today was pretty close to that: D P3, ES TB and the Star Valkyrie. There was no special reason to take the Valk instead of the Roadrunner ... probably only because I had the Valkyrie laying on my desk the whole day. The first round was full of bad putts: Hole 1: reasonably good drive with the Valk, layup, putt -> 3 Hole 2: reasonably good drive with the P3, putt missed low, putt missed high, drop-in -> 4 :-( Hole 3: good distance with the Valk, just a bit too far right, jumper at the pole, missed putt, finally in -> 4 :-( Hole 4: forehand TB a bit short, jumper layup, putt -> 3 Hole 5: P3, birdie-putt -> 2 Hole 6: forehand TB with a lot of OAT, thus short, jumper ap- proach at a tree, layup, putt -> 4 :-/ Hole 7: forehand TB with again lots of OAT, thus short, jumper approach too long, missed long putt, putt -> 4 :-( Hole 8: long hyzer with the Valk was a bit too long and too straightish, missed straddle putt, putt -> 3 Hole 9: sweet 90m drive with the Valk, just a bit right, missed the long putt, sticked the following short one in -> 3 :-) I scored 30 (+3), which is the worst round of the last time. One reason were the many bad putts, probably because I hardly warmed up before the round. The other reason were the slicky discs. The drivers were Star plastic and I had no towel to dry them. Immediately afterwards I started a second round, which turned out to be great. :-) Hole 1: 90m drive with the Valkyrie, longer putt that became a layup, putt -> 3 Hole 2: P2, birdie-putt -> 2 :-) Hole 3: long hyzer with the Valk, had more hyzer than last time, thus came closer to the pin, birdie-putt -> 2 :-) Hole 4: forehand TB, better than last round but behind the tree, had to layup, putt -> 3 Hole 5: P3, birdie-putt -> 2 :-) (Already three down!) Hole 6: Used a TB thumber this time (no more leaves), landed just a bit short, had to straddle but nailed the long (15m) putt! -- increadible! -> 2 :-D Hole 7: forehand TB flirted with a twig but landed on the fair- way, layed up, playing ``smart golf'' -> 3 Hole 8: this time with the TB for more fade, the drive was quite okay, layed up again to not risk anything -> 3 Hole 9: Valk again, wanted to land more left than last time, that I managed to achieve but landed a bit too left and short, ap- proached with a thumber (as usually on this hole), then missed the 4m (!) par-putt -- idiotic! -> 4 This makes 24 (-3) ... which is my personal best on this course, improved by two strokes ... including a missed short putt! I am so happy about that result. It underlines my improvement of the last time. I'm pretty dependably landing on circle's edge with my drives now. Only seldom I have to approach, but most times I have a putt ... which only becomes a layup as I cannot putt from far. Longer putting technique is the one thing I am lacking most, currently. My drives have become better. I'm throwing nose-down much more often. Those speed 9 drivers (Valkyrie and Roadrunner) are giving me no- ticeably more distance. I realize that they are beginning to step up my game, concerning max distance. Holes 1 and 9 were not real- ly reachable for me up to now, but they are now beginning to come into my range if I pump a speed 9 driver out and get the direc- tion right. The three disc combination -- straight driver, straight-to-fade driver and allround driving/approach/putting putter P3 -- is a great one. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
