2018-10-17 Soehnstetten over Par I've played another round in Soehnstetten today, alone. The Weather was fine (20 deg. Celsius, slight west-wind). My mood and condition was rather bad. This probably effected my scores. Today I wasn't able to get a single Birdie, but scored one Bogey, three Double-Bogey and even a Triple-Bogey. Adding up to ten over Par. My bag contained: - D P3 (3) -- for putting and approaches - ESP Zone -- for drives, approaches and utility - DX EG (2) -- main drivers - Star EG -- main driver - Champ EG -- OS - Felon -- OS - DX Leo -- turnover drives - Star Valk -- long and straight drives I wanted to go without Teebirds and with Eagles today. Most of the time I've played with Teebirds, now I wanted to get more ex- perience with the Eagles. My usual set of drivers are a bunch of Teebirds. An alternate set of drivers are a bunch of Eagles. Recently I thought that another reasonable set of drivers would be Felon, Valk and Leo. Thus I had them with me as well. I hadn't really planned to use them, but as the round went rather bad, I decided to use them as I liked. Going through the holes: 1: Rather bad drive with the S EG, but made the par. 2: The Ch EG was a bit too overstable and thus to short for the forehand drive. I settled with par. 3: DX EG drive a bit short (because I cannot throw longer) and left (which is more safe). Made the par. 4: Great drive with the DX EG, just a bit short. Chipped out and made the par. 5: Didn't compensate the headwind well enough. The drive sailed OB. The best drive on this hole would be a forehand, I'd say. I cannot reach the pin in one throw anyway, and the OB right and slope down left are rather dangerous for backhand drives. Anyway, I came in with a double bogey. 6: Short downhill. I used the Zone and threw it out wide to fade it to the pin. That was much better than last time. Still, I could have gone even wider. Par. 7: My drive with the Champ Eagle was much too good. It went too far and too much left. I approached with the Zone, back uphill, which was fine. Then I went for the risky putt, which I missed. After 15 minutes of searching my putter, I found it rolled down to the bottom of the valley. Hence, back up ... and eventually in for the triple bogey. 8: DX Eagle for a par. 9: Over the valley slightly right. I've had much problem with this shot the last time. Today I went much better. I threw the Valkyrie quite fine. A turning (right-traveling) practice shot with the DX Leo was even better. Got the par. 10: Good drive with the Leo. Again a misserable flick approach (Zone). (The flick with the P3 went under the basket.) Settled for bogey. 11: Short steep uphill. Tried a forehand Star Eagle, missed the putt, got a roll, missed the putt again, got another roll, missed the putt again, hit the next. Double bogey. :-( (My backhand practice drive with the P3 parked the hole!) 12: Dogleg left. Tried the Felon for more fade. It was okay, but the practice drive with the Champ Eagle was a bit better. Maybe I should try to attack this hole with a more understable driver and more height, i.e. a stall-shot. Anyways, settled for par. 13: DX Eagle again. Went a bit left. Made the par. 14: DX Eagle. Made the par. 15: Star Eagle. Made the par. 16: DX Eagle. Made the par. This streak of holes were the first time I got my mind somehow free. I even forgot to take my notes. I just drove, approached, made the putt. Rather simple. (That might be caused by the openness of these holes. There's only height differences to deal with.) 17: I was somehow distracted by two women standing and talking near the teepad. I threw a horrible teeshot with the Leo, which flew a huge anny, threw the OB trees and somehow made it out on the other side. Over the OB to the pin was no option because of too many trees. I wanted to throw a skip shot with the Felon to hook the corner, but was a bit too much inside, so that it hit the corner pole, but the skip wasn't too bad. I was able to ap- proach nicely, just missed the putt then. Another double bogey. 18: Last hole, I thought I could throw the Zone, not needing a driver. It was okay. My practice drive with the Star EG was on a better line but equally far from the basket. Unfortunately I missed the long putt and had to settle with par. Driving with the Eagles was okay, but not as familiar as with the Teebirds. The straight-to-fade and straight-to-no-fade combo of a DX and Star/Champ Teebird is so great. It feels to be easier for me to work with that. The turn of the eagles was nice to have sometimes as well, just the fade was not that much different between the plastics. This is what I work with mainly when throwing Teebirds. (They say that beating in Eagles increases their turn first, before it wears down the fade.) The Leo, or let's say some understable driver for right- travelling shots, was a good tool to have. This is a new field for me. I like to explore that more. Thus I have ordered some understable drivers, because the DX Leo is the only one I have right now. My Champ Eagle and Felon do pretty much the same. Not sure, which one I like better. The Felon flies farther. My Champ Teebird seems to have lost some of it's fade over time. It doesn't fade as much as those two anymore. The Star Valkyrie hasn't really found a place in my bag. It over- laps much with the DX Teebirds. Between the two, I think that the slower discs would be the better ones to pick. If going from few molds (4 Teebirds) to many molds, I could fill my drivers with: Felon, S EG, S TB, S Valk, DX Leo. Of those, the Star Eagle and Star Teebird overlap the most. It's more that I like to give those Eagles some more chances to show why I should bag them. Or I could go with Ch EG, S Valk, DX Leo -- for: straight-to- fade, very narrow S-line, turning drives. Anyways, I start want- ing to have the turning shot in my bag, which is a line I have completely missed out yet. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
