2018-05-20 Soehnstetten For the first time, I played the regular 18-hole course in Soehnstetten. Previous times I've been there, I've only played on P&A tournaments. Today, the weather was cloudy with a bit of wind. The grass was very wet. My hiking shoes became wet after half of the round. Apart from that, I had a fine disc golfing and hiking experience, alone on the course. Playing without a warm-up shows at once: I started with a double Bogey on the first hole, due to bad putting. I had expected to continue like this, at least score rather bad, because of the un- known course, longer holes, etc. But it wasn't the case. Twelve times I reached Par (which is my main goal). Besides the double Bogey, I had to take five more Bogeys: On 5 after a bad putt. On 6 after a bad downhill drive, which cost me 20 minutes to find my disc. On 7 after another bad downhill drive and an upshot into the bushes where I had a horrible stance. Although I was close to the pin, I had to turbo-putt, which became a layup. Then on 10 after a misdirected approach. And last on 17, which is a long, difficult hole, where I approached into the OB-guarding fence and missed the long putt thereafter. All in all, a few putting mis- takes, a few bad upshots, problems with downhill drives, and no really too difficult holes ... as I had expected. Seems that shows some development of mine. Unfortunately, I couldn't score a Birdie, although I had Birdie looks on 3 and 18. It should be noted that I played this round with only two discs! One was the beloved D-Line P3 (the newer one this time), which I drove, approached and putted with. (Putting with that one instead of the P2s wasn't so much different. I start to accept the idea of putting with a shallow putter.) My other disc was a DX Eagle. I've hardly played with it yet. Usually I use Teebirds. It is even more remarkable that I scored so well with a rather unknown disc as my only driver. It behaves a bit different to the Tee- birds, but it seldom surprised me badly. The Eagle/P3 combo is one I wanted to play with since half a year or so. I'm happy it worked so well. Now I even consider bagging Eagles instead of Teebirds ... or on top of them. All in all a great day out ... on a course which makes disc golf more of a hiking sport -- just as I like it! http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
