2018-05-12 Bruckwasenfest Today, I played the small (gratis) Bruckwasenfest tournament in Plochingen. It was a single round of nine short holes. I had the luck to have a really nice flight. The round was fun thus. With intention, I played with only three discs, which I carried in my hand. First was a D-Line P2 for putting only. Second a D- Line P3 for most drives, all upshots and half of the putts. Third a Z Wasp as an overstable disc for three shots: one straight-to- fade drive and two thumbers. I would not have needed the P2, as I realize that the P3 putts just as well. (I just need to get mentally over the flatter pro- file thing.) My putts were pretty good. My confidence circle is growing! :-) It is important to have one disc with a reasonable fade. For the distances today, the Zone would have been sufficient. I don't so much like to power down faster discs, I believe. Anyway, I like to play with driving putters a lot. Flat-top P3s are such great discs ... plus a Zone for the overstable shots. Let's go through the holes. #3: A strange one. I had no clue what to throw. It was a long right turn with lots of high grass and some bushes. Thus I start- ed out a bit conservative, resulting in a Bogey after a long missed putt. #4: Pretty straight hole but with a lot of high grass and scrubs starting right from the fairway's end. I drove with the P3. It flew a slight turning line, but as it was the older of my two P3s, it showed no fade. A bit of fade would have been just per- fect. Nonetheless I saved par. (And I was greatly happy to have avoided losing a disc in the high grass.) #5: Straight-to-fade with the Wasp. A perfect Birdie! :-) #6: Very long right turn. I tried a backhand anny -- it was the right decision. Could have thrown even farther. Par. #7: After some distraction, I threw too high, had a stallout, but saved par. #8: Straight hole, played it with a bit of hyzer. Got a Birdie after a strong putt. :-) #9: Had a good rip on the P3 on a necessary low line, but turned it a bit too far. (I was afraid of the trees plus slope to the water on the left.) Still got the par. #1: The ideal thumber hole (small trees with low hanging branches). I'm pretty sure the distance information was wrong. I threw my drive much too far. Saved a par, where I should have scored a Birdie. :-( #2: Another thumber hole and another time definitely wrong dis- tance information. This time the other way round. I powered my throw down and landed too short. (Better have no distance infor- mation at all than wrong ones!) Unfortunately I couldn't convert the long Birdie putt, just tickled the chains. Par. I ended with ``one under'' (2 Birdies, 1 Bogey), tied for 6th out of 23 players. Most happy am I because I made no big mistakes. I did play a solid round. I recovered well from smaller errors. I managed the risks well. I had confidence in putting. I ended unter Par. It was a great disc golf experience today! http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
