2018-03-18 Putt and Approach Today, I've played WSCA's P&A tournament in Söhnstetten. After a week of spring weather and green landscape, we had 5cm of snow today and freezing temperatures, plus wind ... :-/ Still, it was a good tournament: nine short (50m) holes, the same course as last year. A bit less wind than last year and from the east in- stead of the west. On the course, I carried eight discs, but used only five of them, two putters and three throwers: - D-Line P2 (2): All putting and nothing else. - D-Line P3: Most of the drives and most of the upshots. This was the disc of the day! - ESP Zone: Headwind drives. - Champ Teebird: Only for the forehand dogleft right on hole 1, and only because my forehand is so bad, because otherwise I would have used the Zone. These dics worked great for me. I haven't felt the need for another one. Thus the following three discs stayed on the bag, unused: - Retro Pure: I would have used it for strong tailwind drives, but there were none. - ESP Comet: The P3 worked so good; no need for the Comet. - Lucid Felon: No need to carry it, I just picked it too, when I went to take the Teebird from the car. Last year at P&A, the Comet was the disc of the day, today it was the P3. That's one step slower (better form? ;-) ) and one step more fade (it just felt better to have the fade). I played -1, -3, E, -1, E = -5 (last year: +2, +1, +3, E, -1 = +5). With that I'm pleased. I made only one real error (bad upshot), which cost me one stroke. In round 4 and 5, my drives were not as good (nose-up), consequently the Birdies were miss- ing. Nonetheless I managed solid pars. Lastly, my putting (in the 5-12 meter range) is worse than the putting of other players with equal scores. This is partly caused by being a more conservative player, rather laying up than risking a miss, and partly by miss- ing practice. I should change both, slowly. Nonetheless, my put- ting was *much* better than last year. After the three rounds before noon, I was placed 5th (!) and was on the chase card! Unbelievable! After the remaining two (not so great) rounds, I came in 7th out of 13 men (16 in total). That is more than I had expected. Well, the players weren't as good as last year, but I still left many of them behind me. Overall I shot 10 Birdies, 5 Bogeys and the rest pars. (Last year it were 5 Birdies, 6 Bogeys and 2 double Bogeys.) Two rounds were without a Bogey at all (which is my primary goal). The rounds with Bogeys had Birdies to compensate them. In summary, this P&A tournament was a success. My advancements of the last time showed their results. I had fun on the course. -- That's the way forward! :-) http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
