2018-03-16 100 Meters Another hour on the field. I would have thrown 100 meters if not a fence had stopped the disc! Wow! I'm really happy with my ad- vancements during the last time. There were several factors to the success. First, the now working X-step. I haven't filmed it yet, but it feels really good. Second, a great video by Danny Lindahl [0] which fitted perfect- ly. I already had figured out that gripping with three fingers works better to get the nose down. Equally, I had figured out that I sometimes had problems dipping the disc during my pull- through, but I had not been convinced that reaching back lower would help. Now he convinced me, and it did help. Furthermore ``curling'' the wrist a bit more in, to have the hand on the out- side rather a tiny bit behind the disc center than before it. And probably most important: place the thumb more forward than the fingers. -- All of these were small adjustments that helped a lot summed up. Third, a new driver: a Prime Trespass, my first distance driver. It flew about ten meters farther than my other discs. My practice field is 90m long. It ends with a steep uphill em- bankment, which is one to three meters high. Just once or twice I have managed to drive discs to the start of the embankment. To- day, I threw four of them onto it and the Trespass was stopped in a height of four meters there! That's a max distance increase, but as well, I improved my general distance consistency. Some distances: - Trespass: 100m, 85m, 80m (flat) - JLS: 93m, 85m (slight hyzer) - DX Teebirds: 90m, 90m, 83m, 77m, 76m (slight hyzer) - Star Eagle-X: 90m, 87m, 87m (flexshot) - Champ Teebird: 85m, 83m, 82m (flexshot) - DX Eagle-X: 85m, 80m, 78m (slight hyzer) - Star Valkyrie: 83m, 80m (slight hyzer) - DX Leopard: 84m, 78m, 71m (hyzer) - Lucid Felon: 78m, 76m (flexshot) - Echostar Teebird: 75m, 74m, 71m (slight flexshot) For reference some non-drivers, although I didn't really care for them today: - ESP Comet: 73m, 60m - ESP Zone: 68m, 59m - D-Line P3: 63m - Retro Pure: 62m - D-Line P2: 60m (birdie grip) The Trespass definitely is a different kind of driver, compared to my other discs. It does provide distances I haven't achieved before. The next similar disc should be the Valkyrie, but it fails on me. It provides less distance than it should. I don't know why. The JLS, however, provided great distance. It was may my second farthest flyer. What a great disc! (I repeat that statement again and again.) The DX Teebirds provided good dis- tance as well, but also a bit more variance. The Star Eagle-X, however, showed consistently long flexshot flights. There showed why you want a bit of turn (and a bit more fade) for distance drivers -- such nice flights, and dependable. The Champion Tee- bird was almost equally good. I was surprised to be able to crush the new Lucid Felon out to 75-80 meters on flex shots. That's quite a distance for such an overstable disc. The Leo, being the contrast as my most under- stable driver, flew less consistent. The Echostar Teebird disappointed, as the Star Valkyrie did, but the latter hadn't convinced a single time yet. Maybe it's only a bad disc, not a bad mold? Concerning the inner feedback during my throws, I felt some of them leading to what is called the ``power pocket'' and some did not. The result was much related to that. Power pocket, nose down, and flat low flightpath are the keys to success. At the end, I threw some forehands with a one-finger-grip and managed a DX Teebird (!) out to 70m! Other discs flew fine as well. The one-finger-grip works much better for me. ... and I see some hope concerning my forehand. That's really relieving. ... still not good, but at least I see some light there again. :-) [0] http://youtu.be/0qgehS7GfNI http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
