2018-03-03 Filming and Forehand Today, I spent another hour on the field, practicing forehand and backhand. I filmed my throws and have analyzed my technique afterwards at home. Regarding the forehand, one thing is clear: My grip needs a pivot point between my thumb and a finger from below. If I stretch two fingers against the rim, there is no such point. Thus, I do have to bend at least one finger. I used the index finger to counter the thumb and tried different positions for the middle finger, none was great, but several were okay. After horrible flicks yes- terday, I achieved acceptable flights today ... well, not good, but acceptable. Farthest was the Valk at 55m, then I had 50m shots with the Champion Teebird, the DX Teebird, and the DX Leo. 45m with the JLS and 40m with the Zone, just to list the longer ones. Regarding forehand technique, the main problem appears to be the dropping of the away side of the disc. It drops down at the start of the pull, remains hanging down at the hit and then leads to the wobble (OAT). I'm not sure how to change this, maybe by a different reachback or by further changes to my grip. Then the backhand shots. They weren't as far as yesterday, be- cause today it was calm. My farthest ones were flex-shots with the Star Eagle-X and Champion Teebird around 70m. The hyzer-flips and flat releases didn't work out as well today. None of these shots went farther than 60m ... that's not so great. 60m isn't that much. :-( Okay, the field is slightly uphill, but still. The videos showed a decent form, IMO. One problem is my shoulders rotating a bit earlier than my elbow moves, leaving an a bit more than 90 degrees angle at the elbow and the disc not centered be- fore my body but lacking a bit behind. I think I can correct this, still, it's only slightly off. The second problem is a too big step. My feet are wide apart. This surely is bad. I haven't noticed it until I saw it on video. And last and related: I have my weight on the heel of my back foot. These two latter problems are caused by my stand-still throw, I'm sure. The rest of my technique is okay. The biggest problems are caused by the stand- still, hence, this is the time to start with the X-step. This is the plan for the first half of the year. Once I get the other as- pects of the technique locked in with the X-step, I expect it to yield some more meters and probably more smoothness as well. Besides all this driving stuff, I should start to work on upshots again. Oh well: Too much to practice and too few time I spend with disc golf ... http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
