2018-01-14 Ellbow Through Window I've been to the Wiley course today. It was cold, had a slight breeze, but otherwise it was nice. My goal was to do some train- ing -- drives, approaches, putts. I did not count my throws; I just drove with all senible discs from the tee, then approached and putted as I liked to. My main focus was on the drives. There I remembered some drill mentioned in the dgcoursereview forum. My recollection is a bit fuzzy, the main point, however, is the mental image of slamming your elbow through a window. This mental image is what would help achieving this hit when driving. I think the essence is that this mental image helps you to generate the most speed at the right time. (Often times the problem seems to be fast pulls without having the highest speed at the time the disc leaves the hand.) Well, I just thought, I could give it a try to imagine smashing a windows with my ellbow ... and -- wow! -- it worked! My fourth or fifth drive at that day was 95m with a DX Teebird! I've never driven this far! I admit that it was an outlier, the other drives were between 72m (Comet and P3) and 80m (ES TB and S TB). It doesn't matter; I found a method to improve my form, this is what matters! On hole 2, I had several good drives, with multiple Birdie opor- tunities. On hole 3, most drives were bad (much too high), but still I got the Teebirds with big hyzers to 75m. The forehand hole 4 was miserable! My forehand sucks so much, currently. I cannot flick these Teebirds at all. The Zone worked relatively well forehand (it's more OAT-resistent). A backhand drive with the Pure worked well enough, too. On the putter hole 5, the best drive was with a Zone anny flex shot. The P3 was okay. Pure and Comet both had too much anny and never came back. I fear a bit to accidently give them some hyzer which would drift them down the slope. The Zone allows me to release with anny and know it'll come back and fade towards the basket. (Shot the first putt form 12m in.) Hole 6 wanted forehands, but I tried backhand annies instead and was quite successful (P3, Pure, Comet). Even had a possible Bir- die. Hole 7, the same, just more the anny flex line, thus the Zone came in best. On hole 8 the big hyzer is the best way to go, but today these big hyzers were my thing. I touched branches, hit wrong angles and lines ... eventually all drives were mediocre -- the big an- nies as well as the straight shots. I had not enough distance, but I had good chances to score Par. Last an open hole again. This time not as successful as on hole one. (Had the breeze from the right.) The distances were: 65m Zone and Pure, 72m P3, 78m Comet and ES TB, and 80m DX TB. Most of the drives went too high. (That happens if you focus on a dif- ferent technique aspect.) Today was a good day, because it feels as if my technique did im- prove. Of course, this needs much more practice, but I did feel something that I had never felt before in my motion, something to focus on. My putting was reasonably good. My approaches were okay. The new discs played well. This second DX Teebird is just like the other: a great discs, which gives me max distance. The Echostar Teebird is between my (light) Star Teebird and my Champ Teebird. The P3 was great for driving (better than the Pure) and good for putting as well. It is more stable than the Pure but in no way overstable as the numbers indicate. I liked it a lot. http://marmaro.de/discgolf/ markus schnalke
